So do the fish make it over the dam in Caledionia? I was always under the impression that the dam was as far up as they went...

Dude.. yeah.. heh..

They can make it all the way to the Paris Dam. Thats how Whitemans gets loaded... Very protected creek though.

Legends and Myths say they can make it over the Paris dam though. *cough*

I've heard rumors of the Nith being stacked at certain times of the year.

That is one serious dam for them to jump over, is there a ladder?

I guess there just may be more close to home steelheading opportunities than I thought!

The Caledonia dam has 2 ladders, but both of them are "inoperable" whatever that means.

I've sat there and watched tank after tank jump the dam. It's not that high :)

The Paris dam however, that takes skill .. lol.

Theres some amazing steel water between from Whitemans to the outskirts of Brantford.

Some of the best Grand river action can be had in September in those areas.

Wow, I only started fishing there last year and of the 4 or 5 times I went I didnt see one make it over. The water must get much higher than when I was there.

got this huge brook out of the nith this opener!

Beauty.

I've never had much luck on the nith but I've only tried the odd time. A few times a little up the road from Baden and the odd time I've just stopped at a random section that I happened to be driving by and had my rod handy.

I have only taken a handfull of casts on the Nith. The very first cast I ever took I landed a nice Walleye somewhere in the mid twenty inches on a spinnerbait!

This reminds me of back in the mid '70's or early '80's when coho and chinook (?) were originally stocked in the Credit. Nobody thought the Salmon could make it past the Barbertown dam in Streetsville. As teens my friends and I used to ride our bikes down there and we saw them make it over the dam. We had miles and miles of the Salmon filled Credit literally to ourselvesfishing above that dam :)

This river is a mystery to most except to those who have put in their time. What happened to the rules of naming a river let alone getting into details of locations?

  • Naming Rivers: The naming of any specific river or tributary is not permitted in the publicly viewable general discussion forum. Instead, please refer to the river by the general area it is located, ie “East Trib”, “West Trib”, “GB (Georgian Bay) Trib”, etc. For example, you are not allowed to say "I had a great day fishing yesterday on Wilmot Creek", instead, we encourage members to say "I had a great day fishing yesterday on an East Trib". The former statement should be relegated to the reports sections (coming soon), away from public view.
I'm not stating this to offend anyone, but this thread is growing and no one has asked why it's allowed. If it was Nine Mile or the Big Head I'm sure the flags would be raised. The rules are there for a reason. . . and yes I'm sensitive to this fishery as I am a local.

The post was started in 2008, it just keeps getting bumped. The forum rules have changed, since then. I'm sure that there are other old posts that name, names too.
I hear you though, jrocksthehip. I used to have a spot for Specks on the head-waters of a western trib. A few years ago I started to notice that there were always people there when before there had been none. I found out why. Some shittehead had made a video and posted it on youtube giving the name of the stream and exact directions to the spot. Fishing declined so much and the fish got smaller and smaller, that I haven't even gone there for 2 years now.
I'm glad the current rules are now in place, too bad youtube doesn't have them also.
PMing is the way to go that way you can give locations to people you trust. Since becoming a member of this forum I have shared some locations with others and in return have been given some very good locations to fish. That being said, I do not give out my Speck spots even on PM. You have to come to my house and pick me up and then be blindfolded until we arrive at the stream

Wow, a 29" bass? That's gotta be some kind of record. My personal best was 23" and that was a massive fish. Good job.
