I haven't really done any research but I have tap-talk on my phone which shows me all the unread posts across all boards on this forum so I've been reading all the posts on all the threads for the past couple weeks and that's just something I've noticed

So, the way I understand it after all the to-ing and fro-ing and the various disputes is that there will be a gathering on the Suageen on Oct 25-27. Correct? Organized by NADO?

This is correct Knuguy. I have been fishing non-stop so it has been difficult trying to organize everything with this event.

So far I can say the location and date of your post is correct. I am going to make the official day of the event Saturday the 26th, that day I will guarantee that I will be in the specified meeting location from first light until noon and then we can meet up closer to the end of the day again for whatever prizes are available.

I am hoping to make it down for the entire stretch from the 25-27 and most likely will but I can't say for sure. If anyone who knows the river well is willing to give their cell # to be a point of contact for anyone who cant find the group let me know. I will give my # through pm to anyone who would like it for the meet up but it would be nice to have a few other guys so my phone isn't going off all morning on the water.



For the Noobs:

For anyone is coming that is new to steelheading just bring the gear I have listed below and I or other experienced anglers can help set up your rigs.

1. 11-13' rod is preferred. If all you have is a 7' rod don't worry you can still catch fish but if you can buy something a little longer.
2. reel spooled with 10lb mono, 8 or 12lb is fine as well just be sure to have at least 100 yards of line
3. 6lb flurocarbon leader material (8lb is fine as well)
4. small swivels
5. assorted split shots (preferably without wings)
6. hooks, I will suggest #6 raven specialist for beads and worms and #10 raven specialist for roe
7. floats, I will suggest 8-10g standard shape raven floats
8. Bait: pre tied roe bags, beads, flies, worms

This gear is just my suggestion, if you go to your local tackle shop they can also help set you up with everything you need.

this rule was completely forgotten or ignored when this "OFF trip" was started, or planed....

i find this very upsetting, and i have lost much respect for what the OFF forums were here for in the first place....

I agree with what you are saying; naming the tribs puts pressure on them.
However, because the "geen" was mentioned here, that meant you had to mention "B'te" too??? Or in the rules for the site there was a mention of "W'ot"...
Stop using examples of rivers that actually exist down here in southern ont....you may think its ok because it already an over pressured system, but you still make it worse by doing that...when these systems are "dead", these hundreds or thousands of people that fish them are going to come to your trib next...

Really? Of this is the kind of crap I will have to put up with during this outing...well then I'm out. completely unwarranted comment and content. There are young kids in the city who, instead of spending all their time inside playing games and breathing city fumes who want to get out and fish. People like you and other above members who commented similar things discourage that kind of behaviour. Nothing I hate more than selfish anglers.

Don't let the anti-*insert geographic region here* comments get to you. Some people are all too quick to jump aboard this mentality.

In September I was on the east coast a few times, and met a lot of "anti-Ontario" types.

Believe it or not, in Ottawa earlier this year I met a customer who had a very dismissive attitude towards "Toronto". Because, you know, Ottawa and Toronto are such vastly different worlds with vastly different people When I asked him if he'd ever been to Sandbanks, he "doesn't go to Toronto". Perhaps the biggest tool I'd ever met...

I myself prefer to spend as much time as possible in nature, and wouldn't want to live in a big city, and conversely some people love big cities. Others are from very small towns, which seems to give some of them an inferiority complex :lol: Small towns are great, but stereotyping/generalizing/dismissing people from bigger places is not cool.

Its because it gets invaded by people from out of town. If everyone was a polite respectful person it would be a different matter. I hate crowds so much I will more than likely not fish a river mouth till it starts to snow. if you don't want to breath fumes move out of the city.

We end up being rude to people because they are rude to us. Time and time again till you have no patience left. Just the other day a man from the city watched me land a fish and talked to me for a while and asked a few things, I was kind and polite. The next day he followed me and my friend around the entire day crossing lines and cutting in. My patience is at an end.

I am incredibly angered by logJames comment that 4 anglers he met had leaned of this river from OFF. To the point I question being a member of this site if that is what comes of it. I am one of the few members on here who actually live in the area and its the water I spend 80% of my time on not just my weekend trip fish.

A lot of people read these forums and we've been advertising that river like crazy the past year. It doesn't surprise me that it's extra crowded there now because of the posts here at O.F.F. Whatever rules apply to Lake O tribs should apply to there as well imo.

And if somebody does suddenly become interested in fishing for migratory species, it wont take them long to figure out what a "GB" or "Huron" or "WEST" trib is.

I Should also note that every time i am on this forum there are new members i have never seen, asking good questions to learn the sport.
How is this any different from somebody that does not register a username and simply reads through all of this excellent banter?
Does a username suddenly change somebody's status to "newb" rather than "loog".

Tackle shops; anyone else taken notice over the last decade of whats becoming more profitable for retailers?
Walk into any southwestern/central ontario tackle shop and you cant hide from steelhead gear! Most bait shops willingly give out trib names and general access points, conditions etc...
Some shops even have conditions posted on updated chalk boards!!

I am still 100% in favor of not posting tribs or spots and keeping photos free of landmarks, but to assume that this humble little website is somewhat responsible for overcrowding on major waterways at peak times of migration is ridiculous.

As stated somewhere above, once the snow falls, things will be ok...

Its almost assumed from some comments that if one has fished the river over the last few years, that they have some sort of tenure over anyone who fishes it for the first time.

Things will likely get bad enough, soon enough, that major rules will be implemented by the MNR... just to let things calm down. Its happened before, and elsewhere.
