Yup, he was using one of these fishing spears mounted on a broomhandle. Saw him hit a couple of salmon with it, one that he just glanced took off downstream in a huge hurry... As for the roe, I've never had any myself, but I know of many people that eat it without suffering any ill effects. I wouldn't know if the toxins concentrate in the eggs, maybe someone can confirm this? Fish-on, you have to take into account salmon snagging season comes along only once a year, so a couple of buckets of roe should last him and his family/friends until the next season. Then again, maybe your right, he might be selling salmon roe and labelling it as "Caspian Sea Sturgeon Caviar, highest quality" lol.
Wow...that spear head even has pictures of species that are illegal to spear fish, do you know where that is sold? The roe is the worst for you because the toxins are concentrated in the fat of the fish and the eggs are almost pure fat which makes them extremely potent.
