Can anyone way in on either of these items? Looking into a package deal on both for a reasonable price.
rod is great, ive owned and used a few of them. Very soft and forgiving on light leaders. Can handle trout spring winter and fall. As for the stanton. I had one once, and was glad to sell it . Was the worst float reel i have ever owned. For starters the graphite reel foot broke on me two times while fighting big fish, the reel never spinned right and dirt and sand could easily get through the gaps between the reel and base. The spool pins would kink the line a bit and the line wouldn't flow off of it properly. Wasn't a smooth reel at all especially in slow drifts. thats my opinion. im sure others will say different.

My first float reel was a Stanton. At the time it was great, but then there wasn't much available. You could get a Leeds I believe, a Stanton, a stream master or eventually a young purist. Otherwise you where SOL. There are much better reels available now, for not a lot of cash. A friend owns the RV9 And is very happy with it!

The reel's are popular, the rod would be better suited to steelhead than Salmon. Some older Stanton's may be warped so make sure it spins true.

yeah it will be a steelhead stick. The stanton is one of the newer adcocks, post one piece bearing unit. By what im told, spins true and long. Ill be going to see him on Saturday to meet and check things out. Thanks for all of the input guys

Buy the package and sell the reel and upgrade !!! I have that rod and I love and it's my go to rod !!! It's 15 yrs old and works as well as it did new and has landed thousands of fish including a 22 lb salmon and a 35 lb carp

A lot of veteran steel headers out there will tell you that the stanton was and is a great centre pin. I've had one for 20yrs, and never have had any of the problems decribed here. Anybody I know who was rid of theirs still to this day regret it.

Little update, went to check the rod and reel out. The guy had obviously fished the setup only a few times however he had tried to do some custom work on the rod. Ended up getting it for a great price, fished it today and it handled phenomenally. Very satisfied
