I have BPS trolling motor with the usual 5-6' cable to the battery. The short length limits where i can place the battery, and i would like to move it up farther in my boat. Havent been able to source any type of extension cable to use. Can you do this and any tips on where one could get this type of thing? Thx!

personally i would just get a second battery, not sure what type of boat you have, but you could build a wood box around it to keep it dry

Thanks , but my issue wasnt about keeping the battery dry- it was more about spreading the weight out a bit more by moving the battery forward. I would have thought it wouldn't be hard to add an extension to the existing cable- but havent figured it out yet.

Assuming you are located in Canada, I know Canadian Tire has extension cables where we are in the automotive section. Have you tried there?

Will you be moving the battery closer or further from the trolling motor?

If you go further how much further?

If you go closer just go to home depot and buy the same wire and crimp on some contacts, the wire on the trolling motors arent anything fancy or different from regular wire you just need to match the wire with the amps of the motor, the further you go from the battery to the trolling motor yo uneed to go up in gauge

You can connect two cables with connectors found at a parts store Canadian tire should have them or you could solder and shrink tube them. I wouldn't recommend taping them together though.

You could also go to an electrical wholesaler like Nedco and grab some welding cable either the same gauge or larger, depending how far you 're going, nice and flexible too. Check too for SOW or SOOW (looks like black extension cord) and ensure the insulation is suitable for outdoor usage.
