I checked three creeks in west end yesterday but found nothing. Two were creeks that have natural dams by Lakeshore Rd. or up a little farther. The other I was at the mouth. All three are shallow but hold enough water for fish.

I always try to find suckers in April because I'm dying to get an easy catch with some weight on it after another long winter. Plus I always bring a noob with me if I find a school of them. Or kids. Good way to get them into fishing.

I have seen suck fish this year  As the water warms the big numbers will be in

so many suckers out on the western tribs that ive had to resort to swinging to avoid them all. maybe try out there?

no guarantees of course but thats fishing ;)

bastards even hit my swung fly if i get too close to the bottom so ive been taking off my sink tips

X2 on western tribs. Suckers suckers and more suckers. Every day I've been out I've been getting at least 4.

No one here enjoys catching suckers?
lol. good question.

they are fun for the first fish but then become annoying if you're targeting something else.

two years ago i was fishing a west end trib and in 3 FOW there was a beauty 'bow going back and forth. it was surrounded by 3 dozen suckers. i just could not get to that fish.

Found tonnes out East. GBA and I were targeting them on the fly on Tuesday. They were loving stonefly and hare's ear patterns in sizes 10-16.

The beauty of targeting these guys, is that you get the occasional pleasant surprise steel :D

Best of luck!

I enjoy suckers...when targeting them...not when targeting steel...they will be in full force 1st week of may...

Checked couple of spots yesterday. One had about 2 dozen but not as concentrated as I have seen before. Managed just one. Which is all I needed.

There was one time where it was shooting fish in a barrel. Easily 50 of them in no more than 2 FOW in a small pool. Basically right under Lakeshore. That was a few years ago.

Anyway, I was fishing right by the road and under an overpass. A dude honked at me and then pulled up and said "you know you're fishing out of season right?". I told him, no worries, I know trout is not open yet. I'm fishing for suckers. I then showed him the corn on my hook.

However, there were 3 nice 'bows going back and forth in this nice stretch of water. Hard to resist but gotta respect the rules. Of course, this was a non year round stretch of water.

Not every MNR officer will accept the sucker excuse. There are plenty of suckers in the year-round sections right now.

Was on a West trib tonight with some buddies and could only catch suckers. The particular mouth was mainly a sandy bottom but we heard the steelhead and salmon were being caught there. Unfortunately it's sucker territory and they burst our bubble a few times.
