Does anyone use flurocarbon leaders on your crankbaits, spiinerbaits, jigs, etc? I have 14 lb mono on my baitcasters and i'm worried it scaring the fish.

I dunno man, if you're running 14lb test you're probably chucking decent sized lures and reeling in at a fair speed. If they ain't biting it's not cause of the line.

I run 15lb green mono and fish bump into it, so not sure they're seeing it let alone scared of it.

That said, I use a swivel and leader (still mono) to keep my lures from twisting the hell out of my line. Toss a long flouro leader on there and see what happens.

I do on occasion walleye fishing. It's a pretty short leader 14-16" but its not line to line, it's attached to my braid mainline by a quality barrel swivel.

It's definitely not needed though. I still prefer running just straight braid.

One thing you'll get with fluoro is more sensitivity(as compared to mono), because of its low stretch. Alot of people will also say it adds abrasion resistance, but I don't find that to be the case until you get up to really high breaking strengths, like 60lb+.

You'll also hear that it sinks moreso then mono or braid, which it does. But it's a very, very small amount if you run your own comparisons to see.

So why do I have it on one rod you might ask? No real good reason actually, as a matter of fact I think I'll go take it off right now. Cause at lighter tests, no way fluoro is more abrasion resistant then braid.

I use it for casting 1/2 oz - 3 oz lures. Usually i reel the lure in pretty slow because down here in southern ontario the water is chocolate milk and i feel the lure need to go a bit slower than in clear water.
