I would cover costs if someone wants to bring their boat to MB, meet me there Sunday. No motors allowed, so I'll do all the rowing/paddling if that is what it takes... I have many years canoeing experience so I'd even go for a canoe and you don't have to worry about me tipping you over.
I want to try MB, but haven't had too much success from shore there in the past, this is what triggered my post.
Not opposed to an alternative location if one were to be suggested also, but I only want to target pike.
If all else fails I'll probably just try experimenting a few other spots from shore but thought it wouldn't hurt to see if someone out there has a boat and wants some company.

i will be in tobermory, but i fish mountsberg regularly, usually from a canoe.

if you get stuck without a boat, head to the dam and fish BELOW the dam at the headwater. no one does this and i caught 17 pike there last weekend, small, but scrappy...

i'm thinking these are fish that have been sucked through or over the dam. i try to release them back in the reservoir/lake, but only when i can without calling attention from the "catch n kill" crowd usually swarmed by the dam's upper regions

Awesome, I appreciate that and I will follow you in releasing them back up top. That is by far the most helpful advice I've gotten here. Thanks

Lol if they rented there I wouldnt have posted :D
Unfortunately they rent boats at Kelso (50 acre lake) but not Mountsberg (500 acre lake).
Found a few new spots which do boat rentals though so slightly more impressed.

So did you end up going to mountsberg? I was there monday and found nothing in my inflatable boat. Just the sunfish. Didn't notice anyone else pulling up fish either.

I keep saying that I'll never go back because the weeds are ridiculous (like Valens) and in my 4 previous trips I only got a baby pike and one OOS bass, but I figured in May it wouldn't be too bad. I didn't fish too far from shore because of the wind but there were several pockets of the lake with stifling weeds already. At $7.50 per person to park or $12 for a car, I think this was definitely my last trip since I'm 45 minutes away.

Nice find chalkhorse. Wish I could have caught just one of those 17.

i have always had success at mountsberg. mind you, i have been going there for thirty years... yikes!

i will let people know in detail how i fare this year...

I had much more success ten years ago, just started revisiting last year. I have no boat so shore fishing is all I get, and Mountsberg gets very crowded unfortunately. I had success for Pike about 50% of my trips last year but nothing on my first outing this year. Mind you I had the youngun who was complaining about the cold after an hour... can only last so long...
