Anyone here keepin fish? I used to have a bunch of tanks going with cichlids and feeder guppies. Now I just have my one 35 gallon that has an Oscar in it, getting upgraded to a bigger tank on boxing day.

Ah, not anymore, got rid of it a few years ago.

Used to have a 75 gal with 10 red bellied piranhas, then it eventually became a planted tank with tetras etc.

Before that I had a 35 gal with a mix of oscars and other ciclids.

i remember frozenfire posted his collection of a dozen tanks. pretty impressive

Hmm I must have missed that...either that or my memory is crapping out again.

Cool, that was before my time on the forum so I dont feel so bad. With that many tanks he must have to do waterchanges almost every day, when I had the three tanks running I had to do at least one bucket twice a week.

Used to have Jaguar cics in 35 gallon very agressive - killed every thing in tank - rock lobsters whole and spit out claws - 60 feeder goldfish week - bought as babys and wasn't told about these cics being kings of the tank - even red devil ripped in half - refunded 20 minutes later. They got to big had to give away - spotted brown until in frenzy they would turn purple with spots rip then relax and go back to brown. Now small 20 gallon and very docile fish easy to keep. Miss my killers but young kids would gasp in horror when they would be fed.

i love fish tanks i was gonna buy a 225 gal tank to put some native fish in like pike and bass until i was told it was illegal and that i would get massive fines if the mnr found out so i changed my mind (and was told that bigger aggressive fish like the Oscar were allot of maintenance witch i don't have allot of time for and well im always e gone on trips and stuff... ) and got a couple lizards instead i have a leopard gecko and a jeweled (it goes from orange head to red body to purple tail with green legs) hispanolian masked curly tailed lizard, witch is super lazy and burrows all the time... he just sleeps where ever you plop him hehe unless you wake him up then he just goes berserk for a couple mins... and im getting a Chinese water dragon very soon! those things are wicked!

My crazy hobby of the past is of no more!

I still do own a few tanks though.

180 gallon and a 90 gallon.

I have an empty 120 gallon right now as well that I'm planning to sell soon.

I'll always love keeping fish, but will probably be moving to a much smaller place next year.

What are you keeping now? Any pics? It would definately be tough to keep a collection that extensive going for an extended period of time.

i've been an aquarium hobiest for several years, have had several different fish over the years and a few different tank sizes.a few years back i went salt for a couple of years,it was really nice when everything was good but required a ton of care and attention so after losing interest and not caring for it as much i just switched back to fresh water.at the moment i keep a male frontosa cichlid in a 50gal wide tank it used to be three fronts but the dominant male took out the less dominant male,so the third fish i traded back for some pellet fish food.anyway i will try and post a few pics sometime.

That's what I was told about perch, sunfish...... Can't keep any, no one wants to keep gobies, at least I don't think they would......lol. Lizards are cool, I always wanted a cameleon but never got one so used to have a boa, caymens and pirahnas in my 65 gal. At different times of course.

Years ago, I also kept leopard frogs as bait. They stink up the tank so fast, when the summer was over I let them all go in the rouge.

Where you go for the water dragon?

Now I just have a cat...........lol

I've had many tanks over the years. Gold fish, Oscars, Cichlids you name it. I shared a house in Calgary with a friend years ago and we both worked for Hartz Pet Supplies. We each used to bring home a bag of fish every week cause everything in our 2 100 gal tanks were always eating each other. In one of the cement ponds at the warehouse we had an Oscar , obviously named Oscar. He was about 5 lbs when I left Hartz. We also kept 2 Boas at our house, I had a Tarantula named Boris the Spider. And at 1 point in time we babysat a 360 lb Anaconda for 6 months while it's owner was away in Saudi Arabia working. Food was no problem cause Hartz didn't want any three legged mice or Guinea Pigs that came in nor did they want one eyed Goldfish, no one would buy them so they became feeders.
While on the topic, I have had more than my share of Geckos, 2 other Tarantulas, an Iguana named Jane, another Boa called Max and a German Sheppard named Razor.
All lived in aquariums except Razor. Jane used to sit in her tank under a heat lamp until the morning and then she would climb out at sit at the door to our sun room until someone noticed and opened it for her. Then she would sit in the sun room all day. When the sun went down she went back to her heat lamp.

5lb Oscar  He must have been getting some big meals!

Oscar had about 500 gals of water to himself, it was literally a cement pond. He got all the wounded fish that came into the warehouse, and a few three legged mice and hamsters.. I wanted to cast the weed line for him :) He was pretty mellow though and he came out of his weeds to see us, I think he knew that we were feeding him.

Oscars are very intelligent and social. Mine always comes up to the front of the tank to see me whenever I walk by.

Actually, from what I know you can keep native fish in an aquarium, but it is illegal to transport fish without a collector's permit. You can also purchase native fish from fish farms (if anyone knows of any, that would be great).
