This just in. The decendants of the original Mayans in Guatemala have started on a revised calendar as of this morning.
A new end of the world date will be announced as soon as they are done. :roll:

The Incas never had a chance to order theirs. Francisco Pizaro and the Spaniards wiped them all out through military conquest and by bringing smallpox and other diseases, not by plan, from Europe to the " New World." When the Spaniards were done stealing all the gold there were virtually no Incas left other than those of mixed Spanish blood and a few small tribes that resided on isolated islands in lakes in the Andes Mountains. A population of over 1 million Incas was wiped out by Pizaro and 200 Spaniards (some historians put the number at 163.) in a very short time. The conquest of the Incas is probably the closest thing this world has ever seen to the complete genocide of a race of people. Of course fire-arms and horses gave Pizaro and his men a large advantage over the Inca whose empire stretched from Chile to Peru, most of western S. America.
Not going to say that the Inca didn't have a calendar, but if they did, it is definitely not as famous as the Mayan one, and if the Inca did have one, theirs ended in the 1500's. Not by choice.
There are surviving Mayans in Central America, Guatemala to be specific. And they are making a new calendar. Not sure how long it will go for, they aren't done yet.
As for me, tradition has it that I buy a new calendar each year when I do my Christmas shopping which should be soon :lol: Fish, wolves, dogs or eagles which will it be this year? I will be sure to check that this years edition extends to Dec. 31 2013. That way I can be sure that I have a whole nuther year of fishing ahead of me.
