Are we overdoing catch and release?

some fish are pretty much only targeted for food though, and its always been like that. who actually enjoys fighting a walleye when they could fight a bass or pike? and im sure there would be a thousand less ice huts on cooks bay each winter if we couldnt eat perch lol

having rules and regs is a great thing to protect the many resources we have in canada as there are many examples of people strictly overdoing it as they are harvest orientated especially towards fishing. and in my own experience everytime i have observed this behaviour it has been an immigrant and i dont blame them as most places around the world usually if you go fishing its to catch fish to eat for some it is not a sport or hobby pasttime lifestyle etc..

As well tho I also have experienced that look you sometimes get when you land one in certain spots like are they gonna keep it or throw it back after ive put blood sweat and tears and a lot of time and effort into gear finding locations scouting all that crap if i decide to keep a fish or keep my limit that is my decision and my right as a citizen taxpayer and valid fishing license holder as well my god given right to eat fish from the seas and the fruits from the trees. soooooo to all the people who give dirty looks and attitudes out there shove it where the sun dont shine. so i know im rambling this has bugged me for a while please excuse that but id also like to add that just like it is my right to do so without being judged as long as you are following the rules and regs hav a license it should be the same .maybe some education on the topic or a training course for new licenseholders with maybe a grandfathered in approach for minors who grow up fishing with relatives under there license and if we approach it with a positive attitude we just might get a positive result

And as far as natives fishing in there native waters well i guess u can see where that ones going leave them alone cuz thats an argument not to be won anytime soon however common courtesy is not a bad thing either.

thanks for listening i know it was long

As an angler. I respect everyone in the water no matter what they decide with their catch. As I expect the next angler to respect me. Like I said before. It's a matter of choice. I have enjoyed the privilege of fishing the great waters of Ontario. I enjoy catching fish, I enjoy eating them but the decision is mine when I would keep them and when I would let them go. If I catch 2 fish in my first 2 casts and the decide to keep the first 2 catches I make. Should I leave the water because i had my limit so as not to overdo catch and release?

i would like to think if one has caught there limit it would be time to go home cuz knowing my luck that next one i catch and intend on releasing because my limit is full might jus get injured unintentionally which would suck because i dont want to release an injured fish that would probably die so then im in a predicament. therefore i usually try do my c&r at the beginning of my trip if the fishing is good and know im going to catch more if its slow i tend to keep those first few. however each and everyone of us has to use our discretion and that can be good or bad depending on whos making the decisions. im going to assume u are referring on fishing steelies cuz u mentioned a limit of 2 if u get 2 fish off your first 2 casts plz go home cuz the rest of us want to have some fun as well seeing as ive been trying since last year and still havent hooked one. thanks

Lol. good luck. you better hit it up before they head south.i have sport license but i barely keep my catches. and intend on going strictly CnR this year. Although I kept a couple of pikes just because they inhaled my lure way deep they have no chance of survival.
