Argggggg I went to lake scugog today with my girlfriend and my buddy to fish the public dock and causeway. And I'm sure you guys already know where is this heading. So I got there and started fishing beside these two people, that has a net full of dead sunshine in the water.... And then I see some dead crappies and smallies that are only 4-6 inch only. And that isn't the worst part. I guess it was his dad or something but he was on the other side of the causeway double teaming and loading all these 1/2 dead sunfish into the net container that floats in the water. So we Were there for about 2 hours and fishing and releasing and they are keeping baby basses that are like 3" when me and my girlfriend started to get really upset and went to fish somewhere else. But my buddy got so anger he was totally talking out loud about how these fish didn't even get a chance to spwan and all that and I'm guessing he overheard. So he's now throwing fishes that are undersized back in but they were all dead already so there was just dead sunfish floating around, argggggg!!!!

I just wanna ask is there anything we can do to teach these people a lesson?? Cause they totally didn't have fishing licence and totallyl took over the normal limit and size restiction.

Sometimes I hate fishing cause I'm Asian and I get grouped into those careless bunch :(

ps. and I also saw how some people disrepect the fish so horribly. Leaving them to flop around on the dock then putting then back into the water last minute, stepping on fish to take the hook out cause they don't wanna touch it, releasing fish by throwing them back into the water and I mean like pitching them. Can't imagine the shock these fish feel. Hard to even imagine.

Sorry but that's my rant about some people we havta fish with that rages me

If you see anyone taking more than their limits, you need to call MNR. 1-877-847-7667

Put the number in your cellphone. They will always pick up your call and will send out an officer to investigate. If younhave a cellphone, try to capture the offense to show the officer when they get there.

well if they don't have a licence and are over the limit you could contact the MNR as said above, the panfish limits are high so that must be alot. As for size restriction , there's no size restriction on bass and panfish from zone 16.

But there is a limit on amount for bass which is 2 right? He for sure had more then 5 since he caught 7-8 I'm the time j was there that under 10"

Maybe you should read the regulations to be sure. Always have one handy in your car so you have no doubts about anything.

You know what's sad about this? It's the fact that you are isolating yourselves from one ethnic group. Let them keep all the crappie sunfish :D

As for the baby bass well you can't do jack shat about it.(max six for a sport liscense)

Freaked hater.

Hey if they are going to keep a limit its better for the bass population if that take 6 8"ers rather than 6 15"ers.

I gotta go with keeping the MNR number handy. Quoting from the fishing regulations, " it is illegal to abandon fish or permit flesh to spoil, if the fish is suitable for human consumption." People like this need to be stopped and punished regardless of ethnicity. White, yellow, green or blue report them. They are ruining things for the rest of us.
Keep that in mind, they are stealing from you and all other good, honest fishermen. Maybe the $3,000 fine will teach them a lesson and allow another 1,000 steelhead to be stocked in the Saugeen next year, or at least pay part of a C.O's salary. LOL.
To take this one step further, I used to be able to catch brookies in many streams not far from Hamilton 30 years ago. I used to see 6 inch fish float by from fishermen upstream all the time cause they didn't want that fish to count towards their limit. Not that there is much meat on a 6 inch brookie, but what is there is very tasty. O the moral of this story is there are no specks left in any of those streams anymore. :(

I have done things in the past that I did not know was illegal and other anglers kindly let me know. That's when I stopped and never did it again. Not everyone knows the fines or the consequences or even what is illegal, or have the common sense. I have to admit that when I began fishing I never read the fishing regs. I did after that day and have followed them since.

One guy that I know, not well but now I know well enough to not go fishing with, he told me that last year he was bored and started netting fish because they were'nt biting. He got slapped with a $40,000 fine. No common sense, and no sympathy from me either. This is something he should have known was illegal, he knows it now and he probably went home and read the fishing regs front to back....lol. Sometimes people will only learn from "The school of hard knocks".

Educate those who will listen and warn them of the consequences. If that fails to change their ways then politely ask if you can take pictures of their catch as evidence of their activities and/or just report them.

I for one appreciate it when another angler tells me what I might be doing is illegal. This is such a great site where anglers/members really care about our sport and want to preserve it. If it comes down to having to report them then by all means add to your speed dial 1-877-847-7667.

yeah. i'd warn them personally and if they dont listen, call the mnr and tell them i was doing so. education is key when it comes to those who don't understand the laws of the land. it's not just one ethnic group, its anyone who comes to the country not understanding the laws.

And thats the harsh reality unfortunately. If people keep disrespecting the fish and the water that the fish reside in, eventually the fishing is going to be very, very poor. Ive had a few run ins with people like ALN described, and i have calmly tried to explain what they are doing is wrong...most folks seem to understand what i am saying and i hope my words mold them into responsible anglers. Not all instances have turned out so well unfortunately.....

I have read many of your posts RedSkullz, you seem like a very wise man and a good angler too, very knowledgeable.. I'm glad to hear from people like you, who like me would try and educate others so that there will be fish to catch in the future.. I started a thread earlier this week end which unfortunately hit a raw nerve with a lot of people, I was only trying to expose what I perceive as a flaw in the fishing regulations. There are flaws, but to educate those around us is more important. Unfortunately a lot of folks won't listen to us " old guys."
No matter, I keep trying. If I get through to one person then that's one more good fisher. I think I have helped make good fishers of a couple people I have met here :)

40k for doing something he didnt know was illegal once??? Sounds like a fish story to me....dont be so gullable. Commercial fisherman dont even get fined that much when they poach which is a shame really, MNR needs to be more stiff on their fines to commercial fishermen. I remember reading an article on a guy who kept 100's of pounds over his limit of Lake Erie Perch, he was fined less than the amount he would have sold the fish for.

But I true alot of people don't read the regulation but even if you don't you should have some respect for the fish your catching. No one likes to be hooked I'm sure. But yah I always tell them first but being a young fisher, people don't tend to listen to us either. I got quotes like " I fished this lake all my life" or they just ignore you or I've seen people so rude that they yell at you like your in the wrong. But yah illm gunna keep the number on speed dial, and I have a camera with me all the time, just incase I catch a monster :p

friend got his car and fishing gear confiscated, thats what happens when you dont follow the rules

here is some brighter news,

i was down at bronte on monday, around 4:30pm, i had noticed 2 men fishing just off the boradwalk trail, (beside parking lot at petro park) but they wernt really fishing. i walked by with out thinking anything.
took a look under the bridge (didnt see any salmon yet) and headed back to my car. as i got close to the parking lot the 2 guys that were fishing in the mud water seem to of been talking to 2 other guys with all their fishing gear.
as i walked by that's when the wallets came out, they were under cover police!! opp i think, not to sure, but they were asking almost anyone with fishing gear for licence's ..

this really made me happy, but.... not to many people fishing yet b/c the salmon are not in the river, so i can only hope they will be there once the salmon are in the rivers.

i think its gonna be a lot harder this year for the pouchers to pick up their salmon this year:)
(but i sure it will happen even tho...)

if we all try our best, we can only hope for the best...
