I have minimal tying experience. A few 1/4oz buck tail and marabou large jigs for bass eyes and large water steel.. time to learn the real art of it.

I watched a tutorial on youtube and came up with this.. (all old materials my Dad had from years ago.. I need to go get the right materials). tail is too long but I dont want to cut them. I have a half dozen done up.

Nice tie, a word of advice from my experience - if the tail is made out of marabou it may be too big to allow the fly to sink because the marabou is very bouyant.

just put some ma fukn shot up on the leader bra!!!!

haha. As much as I am excited to get into real fly fishing, (I have rod and reel), I fully expect to spend time "learning" in the summer, after I can slay the steel in the spring knowing what I am doing on the pin2win.

Making more of these in the future I am going to add a bead head and less tail, and match hackle color to body and tail.

And FG, there was a good beer wiuth me too, and, the WFN on TV. :D get it right next time ok LOL

I plan on learning how to fly fish next summer too. I hear the north part of our local creek ("D.C") is really good for resi trout.

nice job GT, nothing wrong with mixing colours! i have some black bodied with yellow and white hackle

we should all get out on that creek and hammer some steel, leave the pins at home, spring steel on the fly is a blast, when the water gets clear and low it gets more challenging especially for a beginner

Good start, tail is a little long make sure you're measuring it to the length of the hook shank, I like mine a little shorter even. Also, try to find some hackle with a good amount of taper to it, looks much better. The only other thing would be to clean up the head a bit, don't rush on it and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Looks edible ;)

Add a strand or two of flash... synthetic or herl... I'm a big fan of black on black and super small :) Welcome to nights at the table and finding marabou in places you'd never expect it

OK, the hackle could be a little shorter and I agree with Chris. K, avoid the fuzzy crap hackle at the butt of the feather - just strip it off before you start.
The one thing about marabou being too long is that you can grip tightly with your thumbnail biting in and just tear it off at a shorter length. It looks perfectly natural because it is uneven. This WB will catch fish regardless.

Tie some more, they will get better. The Woolley bugger was the first flie I tied too, got me started in tying when the smallies were bashing them in the summer. This is the last one I did for Steelhead.

This is one of my more recent buggers. I too just started to tie some flies, and so far I'm loving it! How does this look and what could I do better?
