Looking for my first bait caster , wonder what would be a good choice and if you know any quality rods to go with the reel ? Looking for any automatic braking system so I don't have to set it.

Thank you :)

well i got a bada$$ reel from bass pro shops with abs, its for bass. I also have a new baitcaster with right hand retreive im looking to sell but you can get a nice brand new reel for under 50. As for rod it depends what you want to fish for ?

I suggest you start off with a cheap decent good quality reel such as an abu Garcia black max. Before you go on the water with it practice casting it in your backyard as bait casters can be finicky and takes a while to get used to them.

My buddy just picked up a Shimano clarus and an Abu Garcia veritas 2 it's a pretty sweet setup for under 200

Depends on what you are fishing for and what you what to use as baits. Tip for you when looking at a baitcaster. Look at the gear ratio it has.(numbers like 6.5:1 mean if you spin the handle 1 full turn the spool will spin 6.5 times per turn. If you are throwing crank baits look for a lower ratio like a 5.8, and if you are throwing jigs or punch weights for fishing heavy cover with a flipping rod, use a high ratio such as 7.1:1. Abu Garcia has the Vendetta and the Veritas which sell for about 64.99$/79.99$. You can pair that up with a Daiwa Laguna for around 69.99$.

But just like hamilton angler said, I suggest you practice with your rod/reel before you hit the water. They can be extremely frustrating when inexperienced in handling one. I suggest even borrow one from a friend who has one and try it out!
