hey everyone,

so i started fishing with beads literally yesterday, had some very good results, a couple yesterday and today but i have a question. some of my hook ups are lost within the first 2 seconds, im not sure if im not setting the hook properly or theres something else that im doing wrong. i have the bead 2-3 inches from the hook, use sizes 8-12 with a size 8 troutbead hook(good hook but wondering if anyone has any other hooks that they like or may work better?). im love them so far but if i could fix whatever im doing wrong(if im doing something wrong or if setting the hook with beads is more difficult in general), would result in more landing of fish which would make me very happy and dad very jealous

, lol. i know i should be hooksetting downstream which i am making a very concious effort to do but sometimes when you get those big fish on, i may get a little excited and giver!

anyways any help would be awesome, im hoping to get out again on sunday, i just hope the gf doesnt have any plans for me. lol.

ran out of canadian currency??? lol

probobly double that distance, look like thats about an inch and im in the 2-3 in range. but maybe shorter is the way to go? do you ever have this problem?

Not my picture, took it off google. I use about 2 finger widths** between the bead and the hook and it works well.

Could be small fish engulfing your bead. You seem to be doing everything correctly by the looks of it. Make sure you are using sharp hooks.

I use a 8mm bead on a #6 gama hook and it's pretty good for me I think. It looks right. I do 3-4 finger width And I prefer to tie the bead instead of pegging it :p

thanks for the help everyone, i think i will try moving the bead a little closer to the hook. the troutbead hooks are pretty sharp, so i feel good about them but in the near future may experiment with some other wide gap hooks.

Thank god lol, I was gonna say thats a whole new level for your hook size ahha

i'll go inch or 2 above the hook no more but even then ive had a few misses or a few fish shake me off. It's part of fishing u can't always get em

i will find out on sunday and keep you posted. just another day of work, its just to bad i will have to deal with the crowds. thanks.
