These would definitely be 'non-traditional' beads. I found these pom-poms at Dollarama and was thinking of 2 possible ways of using them :(1) put them directly on the hook---similar to single egg 'flies' that some fishermen tie and use.(2) as a bead---thread them on the line using a big needle. I was thinking that I'd maybe try adding some scent, maybe dip in cod liver oil.

They should work just as good as yarn flies, and look like they would hold scent well.
I tie lots of yarn flies for rainbows and sometimes they are the ticket to having a good day out...
 
Dollar shop pompoms work great! Used them many times, have atter! Pinks, oranges and whites are best! Better still if dipped in some skunky roe juice!
