Berkley Gulp Alive

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

in the warmwater season i use berkley realistix or lunker city fin-s fish in sizes 3-5 inch about 80% of the time catch all kinds with them. super glue them to the jig and they will last until a toothy critter cuts your line. if not jigging then i am using a yo zuri crystal minnow

I just ordered Linker City Fin-s Fish!

.... wish me luck

I've noticed the right scent can make a big difference when fishing with slow moving baits and even lures

I love the minnows. I've used different sizes and colour variations and all have seemed to produce so far.

I've used them for dropshotting and just tossing out with a slow-medium retrieve.

I just don't want to shell out another $20 for lures that don't work like the leeches I got. What colour minnow is better the natural shad, black on top of white belly in the 3 inch? Mostly I go for walleyes.

GOOD LUCK, I know you're gonna nail them all night long with your kitty (fishing partner) :D .........lol..

LOL!!!! great, I have that song "All Night Long" in my head... Lional Ritchie??? yikes

Just got my Bass pro Care Package in the mail and I have some thoughts on Gulp Minnows vs Zoom vs Lunker City, I shall share this week..... like anyone cares lol!!!!!!

Sorry, I didn't read this carefully enough. I haven't actually used the Gulp Alive baits. I've always been hesitant to shell out the $20 for the container of them. I've used the regular Gulp baits (around $5 for a package of 10 or so) and they've worked great. I've used the black on top, white on bottom 3" shads as well as the 4" chartreuse shads. Only gone for bass with them although I've heard they're good for walleye as well.

Given the success I've had with those I'd give the gulp alive baits a go just to see how well they work.

I always wondered about the packaged ones. I have the black grubs and they only caught rock bass. I have the power maggots and they work for trout fry only. Berkley is expensive and product reviews benefit all before shelling out alot of money for them. I wonder if the tubs are more economical or more effective.

the "tub" of Gulp Minnows if different than the packaged Gulps????

Well that packaged ones are definitely scented but with the tubs, the bait is sitting in the liquid so I'd assume that they're a little bit more slimy, probably a little bit more scented and they will last longer without drying out or losing scent than the packaged ones will.

ahhh yes, gotcha!

I use the spray. If you use soft plastics it is worth it. If you want it for live bait then its not really worth it. Minnows do their own work and don't need that much scent. For worms what i do it take a pair of pliers and cut multiple slits in the side of the worm. That way, blood and worm guts flow into the water and attract fish. I feel like berkley gulp is worth buying if you are use softbaits.

I was "spraying", Catfish but I now "dip".... not sure if I waste less scent but when I was spraying and seeing all that scent not hitting the lure, I started dipping

EWWW. Poor worm. Total waste of money spraying live bait when they already have their own scent. I wonder tho that with when you are done with the gulp bait and all you have left is the tub with that stinky juice can you put other plastic in there to take up the scent?
