What is the best knot when using fluorocarbon? I use an improved clinch knot but even with lubrication the line near the hook ends up curled.

One thing about fluoro is that it is very slippery. Usually it takes more wraps to secure a knot than would be the case for mono.
Secondly, any knot should be lubricated (with spit) before tightening to reduce friction. An it helps if the wraps are squeezed/rolled in your fingers a bit before tightening to 'teach' the material to compress. Then tighten the knot slowly. It is friction that causes the curls. If the knot tightens too fast the heat of friction causes a bit of stretch and the pigtail. My $.02.

or you can pull the end where you're going to make a cut.

snell not on a hook smaller than a 6 is way to time consuming, also with a snell you have to tie with your leader dis attached from your mainline. what i find best is i wet the line before i put the hook on, double the line through the hook wrap 6 times for top knot and 5 for hook knot, put the line through the bottom hole then the one you made and lick the line again and make sure when cinching it down the second loop doesnt go over the other side of the eye.

Davey knot and trilene knot are both great, I wouldn't suggest a clinch knot, it has a lower breaking point with fluoro. Great for mono and braid if tied correctly though.

Honestly the Palomar knot has not failed me yet. It is a little bulky when I use my 25 lbs fluoro aha. Other than that its very strong.

honest question; how many wraps do you need to do? i was always under the impression of atleast 10?

Canoe knot is supposed to be one of the best for flourocarbon.
Palomar knot for braided (supposed to be 100% knot strength)

improved clinch works great for me with all lines. With mono I make sure to tie it slowly making sure it doesn't twist at all while going together and then making sure I get the nice donut stack look. With braid you don't have to be careful at all or lubricate it while tying just make sure to do lots of wraps. I do 5 wraps with mono and fluro and 8 with braid sometimes more.

X2

I only use double Davy with light fc leaders, and trilene with heavier fc myself. More twists you have, weaker your knot becomes with fc. Also maybe try different brands. I am a raven person when it comes to any type of line. Was landing 18lb+ salmon after salmon on 10lb raven under two minutes with almost no drag. No they were not half dead, dark salmon with white spots. Mainly brown olive.
