Apparently a Homer...unless of course you're steelheading in freezing temps and have wet, numb hands from the cold....

what kind of leader material are you using? Also what Lb test?
I am using 8lb test and "pre"made mustad leaders ( nylon coated 20lb ).

May not be the best but I like Uni to Uni I find it holds well and is relatively easy to tie.

So eight responses and eight different knots! So I guess it is not a case of what is best, but more a choice of what one likes better?
Am I right in presuming this? Because I am still confused on which one to use for my application. ( 8lb mono to a pre made nylon coated 20lb 6" leader ).

You are somewhat right, for two different size lines a nail knot works well, but a bit of a bugger. I use small tubing to run the one line through.
Personally I like the blood knot as long as the lines are somewhat close to the same size.
For float fishing I just run my bobber on the 8lb line, then microswivel to 6lb fluro, then hook. Clinch knot is all I use for that application. No two lines need to be knotted together this way.
For fly fishing, you will need most likely 2-3 different type of knots. Little confusing ,lol.

I am a big fan of the blood knot to attach a braided "leader." I really shy away from swivels or metal leaders, as I find the action of the lure suffers. With a knot directly attached to a rapala, the position of the knot controls the depth and wobble of the lure.

I used to coat the blood or barrel knot with clear nail polish if the leader was long so it would travel nicely through the eyes of my fishing rod.

I use the Jansik special to attach to swivels, snaps, hook, lures, etc. and I use the Improved clinch for main line to leader if not using a swivel, sometimes I'll use two blood knots for that as well as chalkhorse mentioned.
