Hey Mitch.

I would suggest you get LL Bean waders. I personally have the Kennebec waist high waders and they are spot on. I have put them through hell (major bush whacking) as well as numerous fishing trips. They have kept me dry and are super comfortable. LL Bean's customer service is second to none and their warranty is unbeatable. I have friends now using the waders as well. They are honestly a company that can not be beat. (I originally wore SIMMS, until I had a bad experience with their customer service).

If you have any questions, let me know. Hope I can help!

Hey guitarbuildingangler should I buy WAISt highs or chest high I'm 14 and 5' 7"

I'm defiantly considering the LL bean the free shipping would definetly help

Chest high, definitely, you won't need them often but when you want them, you want them. I have a set of the cheaper LL beans, along with a pair of simms waders. I'm not much of a name brand guy when it comes to waders, as I've managed to make them all leak at one point or another, I only buy waders on sale or clearance as a results. So you are aware, the LL beans did leak pretty quickly, however they where excellent about replacing them. I might try one of the models that is a little bit more expensive if you can swing it, perhaps they won't leak as quickly. Free shipping, if they are offering it to Canadian addresses is a real bonus. Last I recall, they really put the screws to you for shipping! I have a friend that has the bare vedders at Lebaron, and he has been pretty happy as another alternative!

Absolutely chest, unless you ONLY fish tiny streams you'll want them, fishing the credit, bronte, even any east trib they are very handy, and if you're fishing lakes with them at all then there isn't even a question!.

I am the fly fishing head at the SAIL in oshawa, I wouldnt suggest ordering waders online. Although sizing charts are generally accurate you wont know the true fitment of waders until you try them on.

I personally wear bare ADAMS, you could get into a nice pair of bare vedders at lebarons for under 200.
When are you working next? I need some flies and it would be cool to say hello in person

I second the LL bean recommendation - great experience with them overall so far.

In terms of chest high vs. waist high, it just comes down to personal opinion and where you'll be fishing. I had chest highs for ~2 years, and only utilized the height once. I enjoy wading, but if I am in flowing water that is that deep, I get a little uneasy. So for me it was a no brainer to switch to waist highs, as I won't be wading deeper anyhow (even though they say "waist high", they actually come to about your lower chest).

Cheers,

Cody

Rapala Waders + Wading shoes. I only use them on Fall+Winter+spring steelhead. I had no problem with them although I barely wade anyways...But that's less then $250(got it on sale 15% off) actually.

i wold go with chest, you won't need it often unless you're like me, where you don't calm down until you walk into absolutely every part of the river, lol. They do come in handy when crossing rivers, fighting fish and sometimes you have no choice other than to wade in a pool, maybe to get a fish out of a log jam, maybe to pickup your lure that you lost to a rocks or tree branch, whatever. All i know is that I've used hip and chest and they're like earth and sky!

+1...you can do more with the chest waders. unforseen events will sometimes force you to wade deeper than you expect.

If I can through in a extra 100 to make my budget 400 what brand is the best

And what size should I be getting I'm 5' 7" I were size 10 boots and my leg length is between 28 34

I have Kennabec chest high from LLBean and they are awesome. The belt is wide and really easy to use. The shoulder straps detach if you want to roll down the bib to use as waist-highs. Most importantly, the feet are shaped like feet/shoes. My previous waders and those of a friend each failed - after a few years - because the feet were too long. The folds wore out first.
The first pair of LLBean that arrived fit in the body well, but the feet were too small. Sent them back to Montreal and a week later had the right size.
If you are wondering about the size to get - phone them and discuss - toll free. Excellent service and a lifetime warrantee.
My boots are Chota, and the 4 of us who have them in the club are all quite satisfied - some like them better than the Orvis. Simms boots rank well with the members but are more costly.

i was looking at this last week, pretty cool and the price is definately within most people range, i was thinking of getting it for my brother, plus i have the simms vapor! pretty wicked! im happy,

Redington sonic welds...comfortable, tough, heat- welded seams that don't leak.
Definitely worth consideration

In my personal opinion, if you are utilizing the length of your chest high waders, you are definitely wading too deep.
Madoc and I used to wade deep like that but it is honestly just not safe. If you can't catch the fish without wading deep, than it is time to move to another spot.

Waist highs are absolutely great. I will never go back to chest highs. I have used the LL Bean Kennebec waist highs in absolute freezing as well as 20 degrees plus. Perfect waders!
