Bluffers Park

Well I just got back from Bluffers.... and got thoroughly SKUNKED.

Thought I'd start by chasing some Perch, heck even a sunfish to get me excited., nothing. (Yes by the bridge)

Switched to some smaller cranks, sinkers, suspenders, then some floaters, still nothing.

By this time I've moved to about 6 different spots.

Busted out a couple of Rapalas clackin series thinking maybe they just werent 'hearing' me, STILL nothing.

Finished off my last few casts with some mepps spinners and cleo spoons until I decided to wrap it up.

COMPLETELY skunked. Not even a nibble. I must have covered atleast 60% of the 'east circle' lets just call it. -Didnt venture out further down to the long point were the marina meets the big lake.

Maybe I just needed to cover more ground?

Not sure if I'll go back there. Talked to a few other fishermen out there and nobody said they caught jack.

A pretty consistent look of disappointment in the eyes of people carrying rods there today.

Not a very good start to 2014 for me :???:

TTP here I come!!!

Hey man not too shabby! looks like he was a scrapper

Atleast you caught something!

I wasnt the only one going home empty handed, talked with some others and same thing.

Maybe the waters still too cold for those bays? I have no idea, never really prospected Bluffers before

Let me know man, its much more convenient for me than TTP, but if I'm not even getting a bite....then...

Thats why I always go back to TTP, cause when/if the Carping gets slow you can always turn around and fish cell 1. And because of the gate, you will catch SOMETHING 95% of the time  (atleast a goby or a crawfish so you can poke at it)

Saw a 12lb pike get pulled out of cell one last season while I was carping the other side. The big guns get trapped in cell 1 if they dont find their way back out early enough.

For me, that makes cell 1 the Gtas best kept secret............. no salmon, no, but I do see bows swimming around cell 2.

^The same plug/spinner will catch you largemouth, whites,^
crappies, pike, perch.. Slap some maggots on and
add bullheads and carp to that mix. shhhhhhhh

Nice meeting you and hope to see you there sometime!

Odd...I was there this morning by the bridge. got me two juvinile pikes....a couple of perch. Moved to the big rocks and had a huge pike miss a crank so a quick change to suspending slow retrieve plugs...nothing....then tons of carp slowly moved in to my spot....moved away and caught a couple of perch by the edge of the marina. Not a lot of action but it's picking up...hopefully after monday's rain.

NICE NICE Fish though man!! Excellent haul, GJ

By chance, is that a Smithwick in the second pic?
Daiwa suspending plug. The one in my profile. Best plug I ever had.

Awesome! Nice catches man, ya I saw the Daiwa's on the shelves, but never picked one up, always grabbed a LiveTarget, or a Rapala instead. Guess I should diversify a bit more

Is that in a helsinki shad colour? Cant really tell the pic is so small. But I'm always looking for another lure ;) so thanks for the info

I have this in 3 colours. but this is the most productive. I don't know the color name but I believe there's only 3. gold, this and ghost. Not a big fan of the hooks on this. after 5 pikes It broke. the mustad hooks I replaced it with work fine and didn't alter movements. I don't use leader. you will love the movement on this underwater.

Ill definitely be on the look out next time I swing by basspro...

Maybe I got skunked because of my colour choices, or was just in bad spots :-\ but ya, that was pretty brutal for me :-(

Was using firetiger, and perchy colours.

Do you happen to remember the series name for those Daiwas?

Thanks again!

Just look for suspending plugs. I think this is the only suspending plugs they make. Sometimes it's how you fish it too. I would say retrieve your lure slower than usual. Pike chase lures when it's a bit warmer. They are quite sluggish right now and would only chase when it's closer. Always adjust your speed. Bluffers is a huge place and lots of water to cover. I caught on right by the parking lot. Try to pause in the middle of your retrieve too. I'm usually at the Bluffs early morning or late afternoon. If you see a guy with a camo hat fishing with a kid....that would be me. Just say hi.
