I'm picking up my boat tomorrow, its suppose to rain which is fine, I called the marine to ask if its ok to get the new boat carpet wet as the trip home will be 60kms plus. The guy goes on how I should get a cover, I'm thinking its marine grade carpet so its suppose to get wet can't I just use a wet vac once its in the garage? to dry it up. I will eventually get a boat cover but don't feel like spending the $150+ now.

Does it really matter if the carpet gets wet? As you can tell I'm new to boat ownership.

i think it depends what the carpet is covering? if its over aluminum or some sort of metallic surface, then it wouldn't be much of a problem. but if its over a surface like wood, water tends to soak into it which ends up weakening its structure and gets soft on you. other than that, i don't think wet carpet would be much of an issue if its not over surfaces like wood.

Keeping the carpet out of the rain is a good idea because of a number of things. 1-The rain has dirt in it that it picks up when it falls, so you will need to clean the carpet more often, 2- you have to pump the bilge out more often, leave a greater chance of getting mold growing in your boat, 3- even though the carpet is UV resistant, it will fade and become brittle with long term exposure. Having a cover means you will have less maintenance on the boat and will keep it looking better for a long time.

Cool thanks guys, the carpet is covering marine plywood. I think I will get it if he has a good trailerable, waterproof, one.

Here are some pics of my 2 favorite toys  Didn't try it out yet as it was too windy today for electric only, but I might put an outboard on it next week.

Nice jeep.

Yep. I think even a little 15hp engine would move that boat along just fine.

Thanks, I love the Jeep. I have a 20hp outboard for it, its an older outboard but should be ok for now if I find a deal on a good used 2 stroke I might pick it up otherwise I'll wait for a bit(year or two) and eventually pick up a 15-20hp 4 stroke. I plan on using electric a lot.

yeah those are two sweet toys for sure. my brother had the comander limited for w hile and it was sweet. congrats on the new boat

Nice boat. IT can be confusing sometimes when you read the kwh rating on the boat plate to determine the horsepower rating, but try to get a motor near the maximum rating. You will get more enjoyment out of it.

Thanks, the only options I got for thejeep was tow, trial rated & old school 4.7 V8. for the extra $$$ they wanted just for the limited I could get 2 boats let alone the hemi.

It has a 35hp limit, funny thing is no one makes a 35hp outboard anymore I guess weight comes into play as well. I'll see how it handles my old outboard, will give me a better idea what would be best. i'm always looking for a good deal on a 9.9-25hp newer 2 stroke. but $$$ are limited this year.
