I use 15 lb PP slick. Should I use a fluro or mono leader?

P.S. We're talking spoon chucking here

I use fluro , but for spoon chucking either would likely be fine. In the darkness even running no leader would work I bet.

when its dark i dont use a leader and it works, but because there a lot of idiots on the pier who dont like to reel in i use 65lb powerpro  with shark fishing snaps , lol just because i dont like loosing fish

all the charter guys run leaders so I would assume its the way to go. With dirty water or casting at night I wouldnt think its necessary.

i don't see the use of leader if you're chucking spoons. for a stationary bait for sure but for lures. I'm pretty sure they're too busy looking at a minnow-like figure wobbling to even notice the line. Just my $0.02.

ya ive never notices any difference from using a leader to not using any and i dont find it to be worth the hassle

run the mono/fluoro leader at least 2 ft. not only it gives you little stretch, it's easier to notice damage from teeth before loosing a spoon.

Same here I use 20lb braid with a 3 ft - 20lb big game mono leader, Braid does stretch like 5% compared to a mono line up to 25%.
I use it more as a shock leader.

So in summary, running 20lb braid, with a 3ft fluoro (10lb) leader would be enough? Or would you want to run an even heavier leader?

used to use 15lb braid with 10lb fluro leader.

gonna switch to 45lb braid with 20lb fluro

IMO 10lb leader is no where near enough to land these buck crazy nooks. Id rather just feel safer running heavier. I run about 4ft of 40lb.

leader is not a must for me but I'll use it once in a while if I feel like.
When my arm get tired quick (need to work out), I just place the butt end of the rod to my belly which result in pulling the fish harder than I wanted to and 27lb leader I have used works fine.

For those using leader, which knots do you prefer?

uni to uni works good for braid to mono

I use Palomar knot for the swivel and trilene knot to my snap swivel. I've had no issues with slippage running those 2 knots

this year I plan on using the Albright knot has anyone used it for salmon fishing and how strong is it?
BTW im joining 15 lb mono to 20 lb spiderwire braid.
