How effective is bread for carp?
I'm starting to see a lot of large carp show up in different bodies of water and always have nothing I can catch them with.
If i bring a couple of pieces of bread and roll up a small ball to put on a bait hook, is this effective?
I would also be chumming the surrounding area too.

Keep in mind that I'm not going out to target carp, but perhaps if my target species is not cooperating, I can easily switch over to land some carp instead with a simple setup.

Ideas?

It should work....

I am sure you'll catch one of those giant Toronto Island carp soon!

i used bread more than corn, works good.
white wonder bread stays on hook for long time.
i even invented way to put soft bread on hair rig. :|

thanks osteo...
i'm going to give it a shot. it's much easier to bring bread than corn haha...
and i never have corn at home, but always bread.

can u show us ur invention

I would suggest adding some strong scent to the bread also not sure how you will ensure it stays on your hook but yes bread can work and not only for Carp I even caught small m bass using bread....

Hey guy's, I do agree bread works great, but if your trying to cast it out their u will encounter the problem of it flying off when u cast. I thought of ways to keep in on without spooking the carp or taking away from its natural smell ect. My best luck was stealing a pair of my wifes nylons, or I have seen them in the dollar store for $1 a pair, get the natural clour and cut a small 2"by2" square. pull a piece a bread out and squash it together put it in and try to cover the whole thing up with the nylon. You hook will penetrate easily and it will stay on until most of the bread dessolves for sure. Hope this helps guys, you can alos try taking a small pieece of styrafoam or grabing on off the ground if available and adding it to your bait, it helps it stay bouyant and thiers tons of it around.

Bread Falls apart too easy & worms get picked clean too fast.

My personal mix:

Corn meal, vanilla and lots a sugar with a few corn bits mixed in, Mix it the night before make small doe balls and place in the fridge so they firm up and voila.

Tip: Use a Hair Rig when fishing for carp else good luck you won’t feel 80% of the bites so hair rig works wonders!

i'm not out specifically to target carp... i'm just saying that if nothing is biting (bass, pike, walleye) and a skunking is in order, it might be a good idea to simply throw some bread on a hook and land a few (always see them around).

if i was into carp, i would have a whole new setup/gear and buckets of carp bait haha.

enjoy

niceeee
i can't wait to see frozenfire go to the cashier and buy some nylons... after he/she raises an eyebrow, he says, it's for fishing! for carp! to hold my bait! and of course, he/she won't believe him and still think he's a transvestite.

don't worry frozenfire! i'll bring corn! =D
