Brook trout lake within an hour and a half of gta????

Hi, I am looking to go ice fishing for good size brook trout within an hour and a half of the gta. Does anybody know any good lakes for this and if so where i can find access points and tips on what baits to use or spots to fish. If i cant find a brook trout lake i will try for walleye so any info on that would be great too.

hey bud this thread may not hit the hot list--no one discusses such detail--i dont wanna be rude but if you drift through alot of threads in here and most other fishing forums you will find a thread asking details about great spots and how to get there arent too popular to say the least i humbly suggest you make some friends on here and hit the water with them--there is no shortcut to finding good spots...

...especially about brook trout. People are tight lipped about their spots even if they are 8 hours away from Toronto :lol: As remyboy1 stated, don't take it the wrong way. If people knew about these spots they would be fished out in no time, especially if it was posted on a public forum.

I don't have any experience ice fshing for brookies so I can't help you out, but from what I've seen on Youtube, minnows ( the ones you would find in that water body ), spoons, Scud Bugs, and worms should do the trick.

To ice fish for Brookies legally this time of year, one must head up north to zone 15. Check the regs

Thanks guys for the info. Sorry I didnt realize people didnt like talking about this stuff on the forum, I am a tournament Bass angler so I understand that need to keep spots a secret. I also didnt realize that there wasnt many lakes closer to the gta for brookies. I have fished for small brookies in creeks in the summer but I am planning on taking a close friend ice fishing this weekend and was hoping to catch brookies. I guess Ill take him on Simcoe for white fish.

a map+regs+MNR stocking list will yield more answers to your question than you'll get here. That's for sure. Brook trout were intentionally wiped out in most of southern Ontario in the early 1900's to be replaced with bass because they thought bass were a superior fish. These were the same times they were using sturgeon to fire the boilers on the lake boats. There's one thing that's consistent about humanity through the changing eras and that is stupidity.

In hindsight, anywhere 1Hr of GTA is close season. There are some spots on opener that are considered sweet spots or holy grails. Some anglers will tell you "no brook trout here" while holding the pool and "just fishing for panfish".
