Oooh that season is just about upon us; yes, I am referring to bug season. What in your opinion is the best repellent out there; -Deep Woods, Muskol, Watkins, and has anyone tried those cordless mosquito repellent devices?

Deep woods here to, I have a spray can every where, in the car, boat & fishing bag, hopefully there are really no side effects to deet :)

Well I had to go look in the tackle box to find out but it looks like I have the same as you guys! Deepwoods for me too. :)

I don't use BUG spray! Never liked the idea of spraying chemicals onto your skin you don't think some of that’s gotta get in ya and sit there and years down the road pop up as cancer!

Get a bug hat the mesh comes down over your face; wear long sleeves lots of options better than coating your skin in chemicals.

Then again I am always one of the last to get bitten by bugs for some reason “bad blood” !

Man, I hate wearing those bug hats. I would rather use the spray and take my chances.

Deep woods is what I take with me to the feild or Muskol. Depends on what the army is issuing me at the time.

We used to have this super DEET stuff that would litterally strip paint off a vehicle if you left it on there long enough. And Im not joking either.

We dont use that stuff anymore of course.

i also use deepwoods

actually there are studies that show that high contents of deet can be hazardous to one's health
i think pregnant women are recommended not to use it
maybe children too?
not sure

i have also heard that mosquitoes usually target people with the highest sugar content in their blood
don't eat too many sweets!
clothing colour also matters
they are more attracted to darker colours

i heard that they are also attracted to the CO2 that comes off your skin. is that true? if it is then theres no escaping them unless you don't need to breath?

maybe thats why i always see them fly into fires or is that just cause its bright?

CO2 i heard the same thing but I also heard breathing through your nose does something.

I don't know if it's true somethign about them following the co2 trail could be just another tale?

that might be another reason why they always try to fly at your face! they could be trying to get in your nose :) !

I have also heard that they are more likely to target you if you are sweaty. It could be that it's either CO2, water vapour, or just heat that your body gives off.

Yuppers, it Muskol/Deep Woods here.
The sad thing is now you have to worry about the possibility of invectious diseases being carried by these little bastards. If I were you YAWN, i wouldnt take the chance that one of those suckers might be carrying a bird flu or w/e else. I can remember a time when i didnt wear any spray either, and I would just slap em off/squash them as they bite me. Now a days you have to worry that that one bug might have just bitten someone with Hep-c/AIDs or w/e else, crazy thought but its true.

I thought you can't get AIDS from a mosquito??? West nile maybe but not HIV

this is true
HIV/AIDS has not been proven to be transmitted through mosquitos

only female mosquitoes feed on blood. the males feed exclusively on nectar i believe.
they are attracted to CO2. This method allows them to track down warmblooded mammals with lots of blood available.
we expel CO2 during respiration, so you'll be attracting those skeeters for sure unless you don't breathe.

Myself, I use mainly spray containing deet, but purchased a bug outfit late last year and will be using that more often.

"bird flu" Now your just paranoid aren't we still waiting on that to mutate before it become ought for humans to worry about? Just like Sars here in T.O everyone walking around with a mask I though that was so dumb frig.

You get it you get it deal with it part of life!

Lets see here: Odds of being bitten by infection mosquito ?

Chances of getting cancer from chemical coatings on your skin ?

It's all choice eh pick your poison but I head what you saying I guess bottom line is everything is bad for you to some degree so choose your poison.

True enough, I have a question for everyone, which do you prefer?
Spray on or a cream>? My wife got some crap at walmart that was more of a paste that you rub on and i have to say it seemd to outdo the muskol and was easyer to apply around the face without having your lips go numb from the deet!lol
