camping

Try camping on crown land, it's free, secluded, and usually you can find some close to good cottage locations or near boat launch locations. That way if you need anything you can simply hike out to your car, and be close to the ammenities. I prefer parry sound for that reason.

Its far better as you have no one to bother you and no person in charge of crown land except the police and they wont dare venture into the woods at night. I prefer it to a park as I go camping to get away from people and drink and be merry! Parks are O.K. if you want lots of rules, people around you, and your car parked next to you! Often you can find crown land with small ponds or mini-lakes that no one is near and have it all to your self.

If you want any info check out a crown land atlas!

the way you describe parks as, lot's of rules, people and you car park close by, in my opinion that doesn't really count as camping, i consider camping as a couple days to a couple weeks with contact with cicilization and just braving the elements in the great outdoors!

I agree, too many people dont know about crown land and believe camps are the only way to go! The government produced literature promotes their camp sites and not going int the bush to camp. The few camp grounds I've been to, 6 I would say, have been a disaster, usually because people I know are going and I join them last minute.

I was at one place where we were the only people there for the first night and the second night the put the only other people to show up right beside us like a cheap restaurant. Luckily they moved after they saw the problem. Then we had a park ranger think he was cool and sneak through the bushes with his light off at like 2 am with intentions to jump out and flick on his light last minute like the cops! He never saw the dog comming at him till it was too late, and we never saw the dog take off untill ten feet away the light flicks on and the dog is allready on him.
Serves him right!

Haha that dog story is Funny...serves is right. Haha...I like to be the only person around for miles...thats why we try to get in somewhere as far from people as possible...thats why we go early in the year or late...alot less people. and very rarely park rangers. (NEVER)

Winter camping is ok if you have the right sleeping bag the rest is just keeping dry I have a sleeping bag from WW2 and it is down filled with a wool liner and I have sweated in an ice shack with no fire at -45. If you will be going into a cold area that has lots of snow make 2 snow banks teather a tarp overtop like a lean to and sleep in between the banks. The banks insulate and cut the wind huge trust me it works.

You wouldn't mind telling me where I could get a WW2 sleeping bag would ya? My current one is beat to hell and falling apart. They just do not make things like they used to...

I go out and camp at least once a month, but I have all the right gear. I have a 4 season expedition tent and sleeping bags rated to -30c. Quick burn stoves ect. I usually don't car camp as I try to go backpacking or backcountry canoe camping for 3+ days. if you have the right gear and know how to dress in layers ect winter camping ican be something fun. The only problem is that my boxer dog gets too cold so I had to get him a k9 artic fleece jacket. Ever since I started bringing my dogs I don't go camping in the middle of the winter. -5 at night is max, no more, if it's more I won't go with the dogs . But again I'm nuts and that's what they train you in the army, cold weather survival

Winter camping + Ice fishing = :-D

...there's absolutely no bugs as those annoying critters are either asleep until spring or dead! If you're afraid of bears then no worries they are sawing logs and won't be waking up until April at the latest. Get the proper gear and build up some snow around your tent, and you'll sleep the best you ever have. Some of my best fishing days were while ice fishing... :)

I camp at least once per month, although this summer was extremely hot here in Southern On.

usually we canoe camp, portaging our gear is my least favorite thing, although I preffer it to Backpacking...

Nothin better than catching your dinner while in the backwoods
