Hi, I was fishing in the Haliburton Forest last weekend and caught these fish. Can someone identify the species? I know one type are rock bass, but the other 3 I'm not sure of. Goby? Trout?

Thank you.

Pics 1&2 are bass and you are over your limit so that is a ticketable offence...Pics 3&4 are rockbass.

You should NEVER keep a fish that you are unable to identify, until you are familiar with the regulations and identification of species you should be catch and release fishing only.

FYI with a sport fishing licence you are allowed to keep 6 bass, with a conservation license you are allowed 2.

Was going to say the same thing, not trying to be negative but if you cannot identify a fish properly you should not keep any.

You should definitely know the regs in the Zone you are fishing.

I see 7 bass in the first pic and that is over the limit. Why on earth you think you have 4 different species there is a mystery. smallies and rockies, thats it. How that could be considered a trout, I do not know. I suggest deleting the pic from this thread as you have comminted an offense. There are CO's on this board and they may hunt you down and fine you. BEWARE

Hopefully you smart enough to have at least a Conservation license. Hopefully you learned a thing about identifying fish properly and an honest mistake can be accepted if you are learning. Best of luck in your fishing adventures.

I agree with the above posts and you should not be keeping fish unless you can identify them. You need to show more due diligence before keeping anything you keep.
I see this all the time while doing creel surveys, people keeping species without knowing what they are.

If you want a good id book go purchase the ROM Freshwater Fishes of Ontario, it is an excellent field guide and all the information in the guide is the same info that is taught in the actual ROM course.
