tough name to pronouce eh?
a lady told me about the floradale dam as i was heading over to the st jacobs dam. she said it's been overpressured over the years but not alot of people know about the woolwich one. anyone else fished it before?
i went once in the late fall, it was cold and i caught a few cats....
guide to eating sport fish says pike are present... anyone catch anything there?
if you have and know the area, would you eat the fish out of there?

the area to fish there is much smaller than st jacobs so it is even more pressured. Only 2 groups of people can fish there at the same time, I go every now and then and usually catch a pike with minnows. Got skunked the last 2 times I went though, if someone is tossing lures in the pool the fish are usually spooked.

Heres a pic of a pike I got there last year (I know I shouldnt have been holding it by the gill, not sure what I was thinking there).

Funny how much that pic looks like the dam in Wallenstein, is that actually the place in Floradale? I've driven by Floradale but that was before I really started to fish, so I didn't pay much attention to the dam.

That's a nice pike. I have heard tales of real monsters inhabiting certain parts of the Conestogo River, but have yet to catch one over 36 inches. I have caught giant walleye and some fairly big bass though, so the bigger pike must be lurking around too.

thats the dam alright.
fished it saturday. landed a 3 lb carp. they were jumping everywhere.
no bass, no pike to be seen.

i dont think i'll be back...

Saw a nice pike landed below the dam last summer.

I fished above because, as mentioned, only 2 spots to fish below the falls.

I saw carp flapping around like crazy, looked like those crazy invasive carp (not that bad).

I was throwing bass/pike lures but came up empty. I'm interested to know if it's a worthwhile fishing hole, or just a waste of time.

Thanks

Ive been told its good fishing if you venture out onto the resevoir via a canoe or paddleboat(no motors allowed there). Definately tons of carp there though, doesnt matter when you go you will always see them jumping and when they spawn you can see them rolling all over eachother in the shallows. There used to be much better pike fishing below the dam but its a very small dam/creek and I think its been fished out, I dont catch nearly as often as I used to.

Punkrocker was it the girl at rainbow sports that told you about the dam?

me and a buddy took my inflatable boat on the water. carp landed on a worm. i saw a guy pull either a bass or walleye out from the shore. couldn't tell from the distance, but it was small and green. i fished out a dead baby bass floating on the top of the water as well, so there are bass in there... just in between the millions of carp i suppose.
i've caught a few cats at the bottom of the dam in october...

naw, i drove into waterloo rod and gun last year to see if there was any access to the river before the dam... she drove up and told me to go to floradale.

I think calling bullheads cats is a little deceiving lol

I saw you there that day with your buddy came over when you got your timmies cups. All I ended up getting was one single 2.5 lb Large Mouth off the weeds there, the water there was rancid!
