Canoe Fishing

Ive been using an old (heavy )fiberglass 14' .I prefer the canoe heavy and as stated by others with a broad flat bottom The heavy weight and flat broad bottom provides for a more stable platform to stand on.As I flyfish in rivers I need the stability.(also cause I'm old and lame) yuk yuk.The flat bottom if wide enough is usually used in canoe tripper designs like the old prospector designs. These designs tend to bulge out laterally as you get away from the bow and stern. In a sense the allure of kevlar and other light weight materials my not make sense in this regard(stability).I like the PVC "coleman" type canoes because of this (weight).I have looked at the Old Town and they have some great features like anchor set ups.
I have rigged up my own anchor system that allows me to release and activate it one handed .
With a little finesse and a few tricks it is not that difficult to mount it on your vehicle.

Unfortunatly i'm not able to buy a boat mostly because of storage limitations however I figured i'd try the next best thing fishing from a canoe.

Canoe are light weight, easy to move around. Dont use up gas unless you add a motor so i figured i'd try that first.

Any recommendations on boat types? one of my friends said i look for a fiberglass or kevlar one which would have the option to add a motor.

Other than Bass pro shop and Canadain Tire anyone else know where i can look for one? recommendations? I'd like to get one which can seat 3 people.

Also, how stable are they? Easy to topple over?

I agree with everything you said! :D

have you ever considered getting a pelican bass boat?

I just bought myself a 8ft bass raider ... it has 2 swivel seats.. its small and light weight.. i put a trolling motor on it and go around the docks. unfortunately i cant give you a good review yet.. since i only took it out twice and i bought it very late in the season.. Next season i will try to take it out ALOT so i'll have more to report.

But all you need is one other friend to help lift the boat ontop of your roof of your car. i think its about 100lbs the boat.. tie it down with some rachet straps and your good to go.. if you have a pick up ... it slides right in the back of the pick up..

not a bad boat.. because its pontoon style.. so you can go into quite shallow areas where normal boats cant go.. and where the bass are hiding.

Where did you get your boat from? Do you make the model name aswell? Kind of sounds like what i'm looking for.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you spend? Bass boats may be out of my budget but they defiantly look more stable.

So far i'm checking Canadian Tire, Bass Pro Shop and Sail. Anyone know or other stores?

You could check local marinas...

I actually saw it first at Bass Pro... well the bass raider 10E one is out on display fully decked out with trolling motor and fish finder...

The 10ft. version at bass pro is retailing at 899... CT carries jon boats for about 599 on sale couple of weeks back.... and the 8ft version at Dicks in the states is 499.

I bought mine for 400 on kijiji ... it actually came kind of a greyish blue color... but i rubbercoated the bottom with that as seen on tv black rubber coating spray.. and the top part is camouflage dark green.

I'll see if i can find a picture...

Has anyone used the Sun Dolphin 12-ft Jon Boat from CT. Any feedback?

Thanks Nato, thats a nice boat.

Nice pond boats, would think they are not for big lakes. Is it just me or has plastic become very expensive? 6 bills on plastic? I just think they are way over priced. BP has aluminum 12' jon boats for the same price.

I personally wouldn't buy a Jon from CT... They're so lightweight that the sun cracks the plastic. Anything more than a 4.5 HP motor will twist the transom. If you buy one best to use an electric trolling motor, keep it indoors & off the big lakes.

I'd keep an eye on Kijiji for an aluminum...

Bingo FHLR, I have seen this happen!

I have the metal 12 foot Tracker jon boat from Bass Pro with a 3.5 Merc, the boat was $560 and i love it. They say the 10 footer is too tipsy and the 14 footer for me was too much boat

Is that the SS Frugler, better then SS Irritated Anus..lol. Thanks for the info on their boats. Would you take your 12' out onto larger lakes? I would still think 12 is only safe in small lakes like Scugog max.

Nato
I'd get 303 Protectant, it's suppose to be very good to protect plastic, vinyl boats/seats.

Oh my sincere apologies. I did not mean to insult your vessel......lol. Inflammed irritated Anus. My boat will be called Peperation H and we can meet up on the lake........lol.

Just don't be bobbing around where I hit you from the back........lol. I'd cure your problem right away.......lol.
