Thanks for the info... sounds like a great way to introduce kids to the sport. Will you be at any of the events? I know mikeh will be at the island. Cheers.

What time does this park open? I'm interested on bringing my son as he shows some interest in fishing. This would be a good start for him. Hopefully we can get there early. I'm coming from Markham so would like to get there as early as possible. Thanks for this info.

You need to catch the ferry behind the Westin Harbour castle on Queens Quay.

I believe that the event starts around 10am, weekend ferry service is regular from about 8am, but there are Wards Island ferries from around 6:30

thanks mikeh, i might try high park first. might have success there.

Cant wait for Both Events!

The kids just want to have fun and learn.

Us "Old Dogs" sometimes get too stubborn.

*SMILES*

I'm going to be taking my little brother out to the event at high park. What time do you suggest I show up to ensure he receives one of the free rods to take home?

I know that with anglers like yourself and Blair that the day is bound to be a great day for the kids, I only wish that I could help you fellows out.

is the event still on because of the rain?

Luckily, it only rained early in the morning.
When I first woke up and saw some of the REAL DARK CLOUDS... it was looking scary (I'm in North Toronto).

This past over ... and the day turned out terrific.

CENTRE ISLAND on SUNDAY (10am-1pm) should be awesome as well.

Going to post a nice report tomorrow after the end of both events.

Lots of fun for the Kids and Adults alike.

The weather going to be great on Sunday, Come on out!

The event at high park was great. Kids had fun. My kid was so happy with his new rod. The guys are very helpful and good teachers. Thanks again for this event. hopefully the Centre Island one will be a blast as well.

Glad to hear that all went well and that your son enjoyed getting his rod . Hopefully he will enjoy the sport and will be able to participate often.

It's brilliant that you guys are teaching the youngsters to fish properly . Carp catch and release is so important for the future of the sport. Too many anglers are blind to the benefits of carp fishing.

It turned out to be a SPECTACULAR DAY!

The kids & their parents really enjoyed the event.

For many, this was their FIRST FISHING EXPERIENCE ... and I can bet we have some LIFERS now.

The sponsors and hosts were terrific. (KUDO's to the City of Toronto Parks and Rec)

The kids really liked the Rods (Donated by the Sportsmens Show) and others were lent by OFAH
The Chinese Angling Associationset up the booth and had many displays.

I was super happy to have been involved with the FISHING AMBASSORDORs! What a great way to spend a couple days with the Kids & Parents.

I think one of the Best LESSONS learned was this:

* It's not overcomplicated to take the kids out fishing LOCALLY.

- Fresh air ... instead of the "Computers" at home.

They learned alot and had fun.

Cant beat that combo!

Funny I do not remember any carp being caught. Then again I only attended on Saturday.

always try to get the kids to participate and enjoy the outdoors...way better than texting.

Blair, that was an awesome weekend indeed!

The High Park event was a good one to start with before hitting the Islands on Sunday. Kudos to the Chinese anglers association for the way they put together and distributed over 200 rod reel combos donated by National Sportsman show, and Mike A for dealing with "the duck". I think commiting my time and local knowledge to the Ambassadors project with you, Dave (tangledline), and the rest of the guys, is the smartest thing I have done in a long while. This is a great opportunity to educate people, get the next generation of fishers started, put toronto / GTA fishing firmly on the map, and keep it there.

If anyone is interested in seeing a few pics of the events, head to the ambassadors site www.torontourbanfishing.com and hit the image gallery link.
