Hey I am planing on hitting up duneville as soon as the cats start moving in you have to get the casts out a fear ways just wondering what a good length is.

If I were to go where you plan on going I would likely choose my 12 foot carp rod. It will handle heavy sinkers and is coupled with a bait runner reel.

Yes! The rod has a lot of backbone and using a two handed cast it will put a bait and heavy sinker a long way from shore. On smaller water I would likely switch to a shorter 9 foot rod again with a lot of backbone , and of course a bait runner reel.

I would go at least 9ft with some decent backbone to make longer casts from shore. Only thing is, I would try to get one that has a fairly sensitive tip...the way I fish for 'em requires me to have a sensitive tip. I fish out of a boat, so I only use a 7 footer, a medium or medium-heavy action Ugly Stik with a nice sensitive tip, then I just rest down the rod and watch the tip or stick a bell on it if the bite slows down.

In fact, you can even get a catfish specific Ugly Stik in 7 or 8 ft lengths. They are medium-heavy and have a great sensitive tip, but may not be quite long enough for those long casts from shore....
