Hi Guys,
I will be taking out some co-workers on their first fishing trip ever.
I am planning to take them to either CCIW or the carp barrier in Hamilton Habour.

Just wondering if anyone has been out there recently.

What can we expect to catch in those spots besides carp?
I will be aiming mostly for Carp because they are abundant in the area.

Thanks guys

I am planning to go out the monday of long weekend (May 19th) hopefully itll be a bit better by then.

I can't speak about CCIW, haven't fished there yet.
Also haven't been to the Carp Barrier this year ( am going tomorrow with a friend), but have fished there lots in the past with good results. Used to live right by Bayfront Park so I cycled around the harbor and Cootes often. Within say 400 ft of the barrier in any direction I regularly caught Carp, Drum, Suckers, Channel Cats and Bullhead. Bowfin were occasionally caught, as were Pike, Bass (out of season let them go), and some Steelhead and Browns. Not to mention assorted Panfish.

I've been to the carp barrier a couple of times this year. I only caught a couple catfish but others were catching carp. One thing I wasn't aware of there is the strong current. I don't know if it's always like that, but I was getting hung up a lot on old line and rocks and had a lot of trouble with egg sinkers rolling around, take some flat weights for sure.

Yep. The strong current is always. Constant flow of water coming from a few streams and the Niagara escarpment.

what is the best bait for the area?
i was planning on using corn and brining a dozen or two worms.

anything in particular u find works really well at the carp barrier?

We , The Carp Anglers Group will be having a fish-in at CCIW on Sunday May 18. So on monday the area will have been baited up. Should be good. They have started to show up there so by then there will be tons there.

Hi Hammercarp,
I saw your invite, and unfortauntely cannot make it to CCIW on the Sunday.
Its my Girlfriends Birthday!

Best of luck on sunday, and hopefully you are right and we get to reap the benefits of CCIW after you and your crew have baited it so nicely!
