Had a few frustrating "mono" moments on the creek yesterday that had a lot to do with line memory and line twist.
You really tend to notice these things in low flow situations when your line pukes off the reel.

I've seen a few guys with high vis yellow or orange line that seem to peel off the reel dead straight.

I'd like to make the switch from bargain bulk mono to something a bit more suited to float fishing.

Can anyone suggest a line they prefer with good float fishing properties?

I found the same thing. But only recently cuz I thought I would get away from spending money an save on swivels (I lost my bottle ) Oh yeah bad mistake. I was joining my main an leader with a blood knot. No matter how or what I did, twisting galore. When I swtiched back it all went away.
Sooooo check everything first. It can be yur type of floats or the type of split shots. Good luck

I think the memory is what's killing me the most. Twist eventually happens, but then I respool anyway for another $8.

With the memory though, my line has 5 or 6 kinks before it hits the first guide on my rod, annoying.

i am just learning with a pin, but ive found Siglon F mono to be pretty good. It floats and available in low-vis and hi-vis colours and seems to resist the twist better than a couple that ive tried. a little bit expense at 15 bucks but i like it. my buddy loves the p-line floating braid he says he gets very little twist

raven or suffix.

Also every now and then, cut like 20-30 feet of line off.

i'v e been fishin suffix and siglon for 5 years and i never had line twist problems and i side cast 99% of the time. I switched to ande this year and as much as i love the line id have to strip of 20-30 yards every outtin to get rid of the line twist. i didn't wonna go back to siglon cos its weak and snaps alot, so to solve my problem i had to add a swivel above my float and so far on last 7 outings no twist. Its one extra knot but u gotta trust your knots and hope they dont fail u on that one big fish

I find my experience has been the opposite of yours FD. I get really bad line twist with Siglon to the point that if my line goes slack close to the end of the day it will twist together like a telephone cord. I even strip around 20 yards off after every outing. Then as far as the line snapping I have never had that problem as any time my line breaks it is always at the leader.

I wonder if my line twist is a result of my setup somehow. I use a 12-24" fluro leader connected to my mainline with a swivel. I then have my staggered split shots and then I have a fixed black/orange float. I thought it was a pretty standard setup but I also get very nasty line twist.

Diameter is your biggest thing for strength I find manufacturers mess around too much and one 4lb flouro could be .20mm while another could be .15mm so I will talk in mm when discussing my line selection.

I run .28mm mainlaine called Trilene Sensation in hi-vis orange. I've not had a failure with it and the line twist is almost non exisitent, the big thing for me is running two swivels, one above the float to a .20mm redwing phantom shotline and then another to either .20 or .165 mm (depending on conditions) leader of the same material.

I sidecast frequently, especially on bigger pools and with the swivel setup I get very little line twist.

I fished for a bit without the swivel because I was lazy and the line twist drove me insane, I was ready to replace my mainline but did one more trip running the top swivel. All my line twist went away and I got another month out of my mainline.

What do you do if you want to shift your float up a foot or two for a deeper pool?
What kind of "shot" line do you have then, just regular Mono? Flouro Leader?

I think that swivel above the float would be cumbersome...

As for the Sensation... does it resist line memory somewhat? I cant stand that right now...i have been debating putting some braid on... that would be a whole new mess for line burying into itself though...

I only get line twist when I forget to strip about 20-30 yards of line for each outing... But even then, it only makes a mess when I am not paying attention to my retrieve and I let the line re-spool onto the CP without any tension..
But as others have mentioned.. adding a swivel above your Float (however cumbersome this will be) will eliminate 99% of your line twist.

I run two swivels as well; one above my florocarbon leader, and another above my shots. I really can't remember the last time I got fustrated with line twists...on the pin that is...

ya ill have to try that swivel. I run 10lb mainline anyways so im not going to have any problems with my mainline breaking. Do you just put the swivel way higher than the float to give yourself room to slide it up and down?

Im also having trouble picturing how this swivel will actually help the situation. Im pretty sure my line twist is a result of me casting off the side of my pin. How will a swivel eliminate the line from twisting off my reel?

Sorry to Hijack your thread Float_on. Despite the problems I have with line twist I would still recommend Siglon....for the complete opposite reasons Float_Drifter recommends it lol. You would be completely fine with Raven or Ande as well, it doesnt really matter as all of them are quality float lines it just depends on who you talk to.

I have been using the Raven High vis 8lb mono this season and it seems to be working out fine. I wonder how much of a difference it actually makes the way you reel your line in. If you have a lot of slack, while reeling in, it might not come on the spool straight, so that could affect getting a good drift. Something to think about.

I also use the wallis cast and don't really have a problem with line twist. I just have to be careful not to overspin the reel and create a rats nest..

Most visible line do not float, Sufix and Berkley or Raven have high visibility line. You can make any line float by rubbing lip balm on your line.

I used Siglon F floating line which I bought from ebay, I read good and bad review on it. the worse experience others stated was it breaks too easily, I do not have a lot of issue with breaking since I seldom try to over power a fish. The line is not cheap to begin with at close to $20.

I have decided on the day I want to own a Centerpin reel, to learn the Wallis cast right from the start, after hearing other's complain about line twisting during the side casting technique. Not easy to learn the right way on anything in life, determination, hard work , took me a while to get used to the Wallis cast.

I also live at the 10th floor of a condo, therefore I release my line to potentially untwist my line, as a habit, after every fishing outing, I still get minimal line twist since timing the wallis cast can be tricky and bird nest occur at times. but in general for other more experience pinner using the Wallis cast........... no line twist.

I advice those who want to own a pin , why not focus to learn the non twist technique (wallis cast)to begin with, catching a fish will eventually come. Just to aim to catch a fish by float fishing, we do not necessarily need a pin.

Wallis cast. PERIOD.

Expect to struggle for 3~6 months
then enjoy near-zero line twist for the rest of your life.

I have used Berkely Trilene Sensation, high vis - and its crap. On the first use, snapped on a hook up. Since then, in every outing I cut some 10-20 yards of the line due to twists or kinks. I have ordered some Ande, that I am hoping to work better

No problem, you're asking all the questions I would be asking.
What would you use as a shot line?

10lb mainline - high vis mono
8lb shot line - low vis mono?
4-6lb leader - flouro
