So basically this is what my setup will look like
150 yds of backing
200 yds of main...10lb test siglonF

how long would be the ideal shot line? (fluoro or mono?)
and leader lenght?

what's the ideal knot?
(backing to main swivel shotline swivel leader)

My original setup was...
backing
main
leader.

I go backing, main, swivel, shot line (mono 8lb), swivel, leader(flouro), hook

Works great and I never get line twist
thanks. how long is the shot line?

Ic so there is a swivel above the bobber. What's the ideal knot for backing and main. Appreciate all of this.

normally the swivel is below the float so if you break off the float stays on

Skip the shot line, fish clear trilene XL 10LB, avoid an unnecessary headache, and stick with your main/swivel/ leader combo, and pound fish! Shot lines are a solution to a problem that doesn't exist!

ya I go below the swivel. I just make sure i don't use to strong a leader I don't lose a lot of float either

I have to disagree.
I switched from high via main line to siglon green and figured I didn't need a shot line if my main was low-vis......
Not the case. Got a lot more line twists with all my regular habits.
I'm sold on shot lines.
One thing I have been doing is wallis'ing all my short casts which has helped prevent twist on long outings.

I run backing, main line (sufix siege orange 10lb) where my float is, down to a barrel swivel, shot line(6-8lb spider wire fluoro ez) depends on depth I guess and then another barrel swivel with about 18 inches of raven fluorocarbon in 4.8 and 5.6lb respectively(generally the breaking point so you don't have to continue re-tying the whole rig). I sometimes use an improved surgeon to connect shot line to leader but only in ultra slow ultra gin water

I used trilene X smooth and it was terrible. I threw the rest of the spool in the garbage. It kinked way too easily, and was so soft that every but of slack tangled into a huge knot.

that even happens on spinning gear....

so i guess there are many different rigging techniques...some use shotlines and some just put shots on the leader itself...i will have to practice to see which one is preferable to me. will try both. appreciate all this info. i've been catching a lot of 7-8 inch chubs lately...when will they turn to chrome?lol
