ebay $80 delivered to the door.

Like Robb Marquette said, "spool on a pin..."
There are some very decent pins out there for sub $200...all CNC anyway. I picked up a TFG for $75 and spins well and looks good too. Always good for a backup reel in any event.

Nothing the "Imperial Troops" would ever deign to be seen with on the water though...

looks decent, im sure it could give the aventa or sheffield a good run for the money. I wonder why none of the retailers carry it.

a fisherman, the gear does not make

+1 this. But I guess that would be a good starter if someone really wants to try centerpin fishing...price wise. I stick to what I'm comfortable using. And still loving the rip of my drag.

some people buy gear because they want the prestige of fishing with the best, and i'll admit, i bought a high end rod, but other than that i buy stuff that functions. after all, our parents an grandparents got along just fine without it

but yea, if that reel spins the way the guy says it does, its a great buy

"spin"... whatever

Still a matter of startup inertia that is most critical

all a matter of symantics....meaning if it 'spins' for the 4 minutes like it says in the video, then there can't be a whole lot of resistance on the bearing, then one can assume the 'startup inertia' will be much less

Ya thats it Jmatt. When I did a spin test on my imperial it was something like 7 min 30 seconds. Of that maybe three minutes was spinning fast and the last 4.5 minutes it was moving at a snails pace. The only way it could spin that slowly for that long is with perfect tolerances and top quality bearings which are the same features that determine start up. I stopped catching fish after I got a quality reel so naturally I had to get rid of the bad luck charm lol.

Different nonetheless...startup inertia is different from rotational inertia or otherwise known as the moment of inertia

For what it's worth

which reels have great start up inertia? that is why i wanted a new cp in the first place.

Actually they are the same. A big inertia will make it hard to stop as well as hard to start, so the spin time once the reel is going will be longer. So claims of long spin times need to be weighed against what it'll cost you in 'start-up inertia'.
