centerpin

I have been telling everyone about inexpensive centerpin reel available on ebay 2 years ago , the Ukraine one I got was only $30, including this Marco cortesi or Ikonix or cyprinus morrach reel are all good enough to fish most creeks and niagara river.

the reel does not need to spin for more than 2 minutes long to catch fish, as long as the start up inertia time will work even on slight moving current on the river. I own both Marco cortesi and Ukrane made, and the start up are very good.

The cyprinus monarch was available back in november at ebay for $70 landed cost. All sold out I pressume. They are almost identical in style to Ikonix, I presume reels were made by the same factory as Ikonix or cortesi in china , one is just marketed to UK and another to US. TF gear was also a good reel.

The bearings cannot be replace with Abec 7 as I enquired, not known size compatible from boca bearings, but the reel works smooth during start up. Another experience pinner using okuma aventa tested my reel for comparison purposes and said it was just as smooth during start up,

There are hardly any parts or tiny mechnaism inside a Centerpin reel, just a big mold of aluminum die cast and bearings, unlike spinning or Baircasting reel, lots of assembly process involved. If one can buy a spinning reel for under $25 these days, centerpin reel from China should cost even less. The reason price is still sold somewhat higher than a spinning reel was due to reel not being mass produce, many pin reel were still made in North America, and reel were still promoted among the Elitetist.

I also bought a fly reel with good drag system for $30 from DHagte, competitor of ebay, almost identical to my Ikonix pin , having 2 ball bearings, adjustable teflon drag clutch system and smoother than most $100 fly reel, very similar to Okuma SLV. In fly fishing, no need ball bearings and drag system control on the reel, expensive models have these features and cost more than $200. No reason for Ikonix centerpin reel to sell for $70 either Still not a lot of competition for inexpensive pin reel on ebay as of yet.

Rapala Pin reel selling for $120 at sail is also a good reel..........as I tested it, it will spin longer than Ikonix brand. If one wants to also use a centerpin reel as a blower fan, then they need to buy the expensive model. I was told by Sail personnel that another brand name has come out, available before summer, and will be more superior than Okuma Centerpin reel, (spin longer?) selling for $160

I am still confuse .................. what has length of spinning time on a reel got to do with trying to catch a fish? I believe using proper walis casting technique and finding the right spot that hold fish are more important compared to the length of spinning time on a Centerpin reel.

Aaahhhhh...nothing like a breath of logical fresh air.You are absolutely right man...I too have been saying the very same thing, though, as you have likely also experienced, falling on deaf ears. I own the UK TF cp and have said, with a response of deafening silence, that it is both a good quality reel and looks dam nice...no need to be dropping $500...

Although I don't have a vested interest in their products per se (only their pro staffer), the Amundson Steelheader cp for $200 is a great reel and can hold its' own vis-a-vis Islander...
I am thrilled with the one they sent me and will likely not use any other...
N.B. of course if Robb makes me an offer I can't refuse...well...a different matter altogether though...

There will always be the Imperial IMPS and the Okuma ORKS...

its like i've always said, the gear doesn't make the fisherman, a $50 reel or rod is going to catch just as many fish as a $500 reel or rod, its just a matter of balancing budget and quality
