but i think were veering greatly away from the OP and think we should get back on track
some one necromanced this 3 year old thread, the OP dealt with it already, over 2 years ago. most people can't fish with their cp now and the site has been boring and quiet and seem to want to make it lively. some people can't live without conflict.
as far as ferrari vs honda, when it comes to accident prevention it is a lot easier with a high torque car than a slow car, if you have to lets say make a left turn with a ferrai as cars are coming is a lot different than a honda, by the time honda reaches x speed the oncoming car can T bone you, a ferrari would of been over the line few seconds before that. but going speed limit on the same highway at 100 they are exactly same. basically using high end cp or low end cp on frogwater vs fast water.
as far as high end vs low end these are my points i have learnd from 13 years of fishing with a cp,
mid High end $400-800
Pros:
-sturdy.
-Tight tolerance.
-won't leave room for line to get caught behind the back plate.
-startup in frogwater/slower water for maximum presentation.
-smoothness for maximum presentation
-needs to be bought once and lasts decades if taken care of properly.
-generally more comfortable in hand.
-don't need to be paid attention to as you fish and you can concentrate more on your float, rod tip and presentation instead of worrying about what the reels is doing.
-better materials that are more durable.
-better quality control.
Cons:
-expensive for most non avid CP fisherman that not sure about cping.
-if it is your first reel and you don't like the type of fishing will not be a good investment.
Low end $30-200
Pros:
-cheap.
-readily available.
-does the job in faster waters.
-good investment for people that are not sure if they want to stick to that style of fishing.
Cons:
-cheap Chinese material with fancy colour that were marked up 500+%.
-manually has to be started in some water conditions, even in some medium condition, and definitely in slow conditions.
-have to be paid attention to it make sure it is performing properly, and that takes away from watching the float.
-can cause your cast/float to come out of the right drift due to spool not turning.
-known for the line to get caught behind back plate and snap, due to loose tolerance.
-it needs/ends up being replaced 1-2 times life time excluding the original reel, as the owner's standards change, costing more than price of a single mid high end reel within the same time.
-wobbly.
-feels cheap in hands.
-usually very light due to cheap materials.
-mass produced and minimal quality controlled.
now if you can justifying spending 200 dollars on a 500+% marked up Ukrainian reel with slightly better bearings, mind you, 2 stainless bearing, not German, not Japanese, not marine grade, NOT even abec(does not meet the standard) just good old standard bearing and manually starting your reel with your finger, and you think it was a good logical purchase and you were smart for not spending extra 100 on an islander, then you prove the point why i have given up giving advice about cp reels and their mechanics on this site. i do see the irony in this post. but it is more for the new people that might see this thread.
