I've been meaning to bring my dad out to fly fish. From my previous post (http://www.ontariofishingforums.com/forum/topic/18000-need-help-with-teaching-a-new-fly-fisher/) I mentioned that he was new to fly fishing and I wanted to bring him out to a place where he could practice casting but also maybe get a few tugs and/or fish. People suggested Primrose trout farm as a good place to ensure a few fish were caught.

So instead of going to Primrose and casting to pond trout, I decided to bring my dad to the river for his first real experience fly fishing in the fall for trout. This was a big risk, since I wanted to make sure he caught something (even a tug) on his first outing.

It panned out.

Enjoy!

By the way, if anyone is as frugal and resourceful as I aim to be, and want a quick and easy side project, go by yourselves some #6 egg hooks and the smallest red pom poms from Michaels. You can tie an egg fly in less than 1 minute for less than 5 cents each. And they catch fish!

wild fish are WAAAAY better than pond fish any day

grats on the beauty brown, very nice first catch (also jealous since i've never caught a brown)

on a side, i notice you use the split shots with the fins on em, i would change em out for the BB style, that way your line won't twist in the current

Schnip, you are right. There is nothing wrong with pond trout. But if you have to go through all the adventures to find a wild river trout, it just makes it that much more gratifying and satisfying.

Thats a nice brown
Definitely not a bad fish to catch on the fly...
