I've been meaning to check out the Credit for some fall steelhead but have never fished this river before. I guess I've always been deterred by the talk of large crowds. So I end up fishing tribs from Bronte to Niagara. Which is fine but I feel like I'm missing out...

I was wondering if someone can let me know what the crowd situation at Erindale Park is like during WEEKDAYS in the late fall (such as now)?? Is this the best place to start out or should I try somewhere else? Seeing as I'm coming from Hamilton. Any other special things I should know for the Credit that might not apply to places like Bronte? Thanks for the help!

Thank you for starting this thread. I've been fishing Bronte lately and would like to start adding the Credit to my fishing trips, but wasn't sure where to start. Any replies are greatly appreciated!

I havent fished Credit very much but I can tell you that if you are going to Bronte because you think there is a smaller crowd there then you will be very happy with what you find at Credit river. They both get busy but Bronte is worse.

Yah i was at Bronte for the first time friday...it was diffrent to say the least, there were all these kids that must skip school in the morning to go fishing, and there little heathens!!! But i like the credit better used to have family who had a house on the river so it was real convenent..lots of good times

I find if you avoid Petro Canada Park that you won't see much people at all (this time of year at least). Last few times I went (even on saturday), there was almost nobody around.

hey pop-vlado in erindale (credit river) this time is less people specially when its too cold or there's snow i fish in erindale i know because i live near 5mins at my home :) enjoy fishing in credit in weekdays you will find more people in week end but in week days its less people sometimes there's no one :)

I went higher up by the Hotel and it was packed 2 saturdays ago, I guess I need to go even higher next time.

I've fished the Credit for 30 years and Erindale is one of the poorest places to fish for chrome. I know lots of places that are way better and see a lot less pressure. Erindale actually SUCKS. Given the options you couldn't pay me enough to waste my time there.

Without giving away your secret spots, is there a better starting point you could suggest? Even a place to park and start working from? Unfortunately just knowing that Erindale is not a good place to start doesn't really help those of us looking to start fishing the Credit.

That's not what I said. I catch lots of 'bows in the Credit. What I said is Erindale Park is not a very good place to fish the river. With miles of river still open there are lots of better places to go. Erindale is the Petro Canada Park of the Credit.

Anyone fished the Credit just above Brittania Rd? Do steelhead make it up that far despite the Streetsville Dam? I was hoping try my luck there on the weekend, any suggestions?

I was wondering the same. If the fish from the the streetsville dam are constantly being moved then there should be some fish around?

Ssshhhhh that's what I'm talking about. 35 years ago no one thought the Salmon and Trout could make it past Barbertown Dam in Streetsville. My friends and I knew different, but we weren't talking. Yes they still get past the dam. There's miles of good water to fish above Streetsville although I believe it is only open as far as the 407 now. Haven't got out that way this year yet, I wish. But I caught 11 at 1 of my honey holes last Dec. in about 5 hours of fishing. Do check the regs though. I think Britannia to the 403 is now closed.

Don't want to disagree but I'm sure the reg says its extended season from britannia rd to south side of 407. Dec.31 closing.

Not "Callling out anyone" cause believe me: Unfortunately there is some misiterpreted, or wrong or "Grey Zone" info out there.
Garfield is correct on this one.

Here are the OFFICIAL MNR REGS:

Rainbow trout, Brown trout and Pacific salmon extended fall season (4th Sat. in Apr. to Dec. 31)

Credit River and tributaries - from the south side of Britannia Road in the City of Mississauga upstream to the south side of the Hwy. 407 Bridge in the City of Brampton

I love the CRAA and there good work, however ... I must say that i have come across "Wrong Info" with them before as well.
No one is perfect, and I'm sure there are some mistakes for all.

(Dont get me going on their "Stats"... *SMILES* They DO GREAT WORK! .. but on the "Stats" i have to raise an eyebrow or 2)

i hope that not all the fish get caought up in the dam. i live 1 min from the river north of britania and would love to take a walk and do soming pinning.. but alfie ur right about the erindale situation in my opinion.. i have yet to catch anything.. recently ive seen many anglers but catch nothing (often) well there is alot of presure accosiated with that area.

Yup, south side of Brittania all the way down to the 403 bridge is closed. Anything above Brittania up to the 407 bridge is fair game. Hopefully the rain today will help things on the rivers for some weekend pinning.
