Im not sure if there is a thread for this yet but im cruising the custom reel sites and it is tough to find the manufacturers in the 1000's of google results. A few ive looked at are below, if you know of a reel and have a website post it up. No website just post a picture of the reel if you can find one.

It seems alot of the custom guys dont have web sites, makes it quite difficult to search around the options. As new links are added to the thread I will update the OP to include those links so they are easy to access. I hear another website is being launched in the next week or so and when it does ill add it to this thread as well.

Ya, im talking about the independant manufacturers that create their own designs. They can be CNC made too, im just looking to learn about more options for the small run reels.

Does anyone have experience with any of the reels?

I like the look of the palming rims on the Spahr's, the Tailout Drifter from Canada Fishing reels caught my eye, the John Milner reels look really nice but something tells me they will be pricey, and those Rivers edge reels look nice too with a nice palming rim and just a 30 minute drive from me as well.

I have a Spahr reel you can try brother...River's Edge, not too keen on, he's still working out the bugs as far as I can tell. The Milner is a very nice reel...but yes pricey, and you have to like a narrower spool...

I recently owned a frogwater, beautiful reel, worked amazing on nice days not so good on cold wet days. It froze up often and ran slow. I do love these custom reels but in their chase to find perfection they often make them so tight that any weather or poor condition end up actually hurting performance.

sweet, which reel do you have? I was liking the 1212

do you know what that reel would be worth new? Im also wondering if a vintage, first run reel would be best for my primary reel? He must have improved on the design over the years.

What do you want a bait chucker like that for? Sell?

You're too predictable man!!!
Bait chucker indeed...

I don't mind letting you have it for a week or so if you want to try it out...it's bomb proof for sure but likely doesn't spin like your Sheff...I haven't really broken it in yet.
But hey you're free to give it a spin.

Milners are very nice, so are the ang spec if you find one used, as they are stupidly overpriced new. I took a couple drifts with the rivers edge, didn't blow me away. my favourite to date is the demarco, retarded smooth, perfect handle placement and reel foot height. I've heard great things about the froggys but have also heard of a few guys selling cuz of freeze ups and dirt being difficult to flush out. Many of these reels come standard or with an option for backplate porting which I have discovered to be a b*tch when laying your reel down on the ground (let's in to much dirt). Solid backplatess for me personally.

Doesnt spin like my sheffield? That just cant be the case! I would have thought it would spin like a dream. My main concern about the reel is the screw that holds it together, I like being able to take my reel apart riverside. You cant tell that from their website, it looks like there is some sort of cover over the pin.

Ya the solid backplate is a good call. Being durable and easy to take apart riverside is really important for me as well.

my buddy has spahr one off blue w/ 4 handles.... every screw needed loctite and the dust cap fell off. having fished stanton and sheffield must say i like the full backplate more

ve been fishing a revolution from wayne at canada fishing reels for about 6 week. night and day from my sheffs. i toO was concerned with not being able to take the spool off (seems like you have to with the shef). in six weeks i havent felt the need to take the spool off riverside, other than the day i spilled a handfull of sand in it. if i get a little blowing sand in it i put the reel in the water only as deep as the backplate face down and give it a decent spin back and forth. seems to get it out. also full backplate and strong clicker.
Next will be a FW (looking like a waiting list) then a PF
I chose waynes for 1-he made some sick handles for my okuma in lightnight speed for a fair price. 2 i spoke with a guy who fished a proto and loved it 3-they are made in brampton and 4 wayne is the nicest/coolest dude to deal with.
for the same money as a KP r2 you ge to shake the huys hand that built the art. just my two......
