A friendly tip from everyone's favourite TV fishing personality:

Ok, maybe not everyone's!
I found this video clip particularly cool, because the first fish I caught when I took up angling in 2009, a large pike, was caught when I was able to produce a very similar circular motion with a dead minnow, that had made its way to shore and I had scooped out and later put on my hook. I've always known that being able to reproduce such action consistently would be deadly, and never knew about this plastic tipped rig.
Standing on the bridge in St. Jacob's by the dam, looking into the rapids, from time to time you can see large suckers on their last breaths swimming in exactly this manner. Very enticing to a pike!
I'd imagine this rig would be effective for laker fishing through the ice.
