It's all good. Panfish jigs on an ultra light rod, fishing for panfish. Bass will hit anything that comes near their nest. Unless you can see them, sometimes there's no way of avoiding OOS bass.

Dandy bucketmouth BTW. Bet that was a thrill on light tackle!

tcp...respectfully....Bass will hit anything that you put out there. So even trying to go after panfish or Pike...you stand the change of hitting something OOS....

Hey these things happen. I've caught a bunch of bass while going for pike and walleye so far this year. As long as you release the bass as quick as possible and stay away from their nests that's all you can do

let me tell you what happened last thursday, i was steelheading on a series of pools up in the east, 2 pools up, i got myself a nice steelhead, couple of hours later a white sucker comes along, and i moved up a pool thought i was going crazy seeing a bass jumping to the pool higher up, needless to say 20 mins later he hit my pink worm and gave me a nice show, few jumps, endless runs, wasnt really aiming for them, but he was in the same pool and happen to be hungry at the same time, now i got an OOS bass, but IMO if they bit your bait legally and they were out of season as long as you dont keep em nobody will say boo, happens to the me all the time, OOS fish hits, specially when walleye just opens up, they alot of OOS fish will hit the same lures, just sayin,

Went down to Bayfront this morning, second cast: OOS Bass. Moved spots, few minutes later: OOS Bass. Moved spots again and changed lures: BIGGER OOS Bass lol. When Season opens in a few weeks now I'm sure to be skunked lol.

I didn't see your post before you removed it Doorhandle, but judging by the replies, it seems that you did what has happened to many of us at one time or another... You accidentally caught an OOS bass. It's happened to me numerous times while targeting crappie, trout, and various other fish. As others have said, sometimes it's unavoidable. All you can do in these situations is release the bass as quickly as possible, and try to avoid presenting your bait near bass nests (if they're visible).

If it's accidentally caught, just put it back in the water as soon as you can. I understand the excitement of taking pictures of catches...but it becomes moot once it is OOS...there is really no point. As Eric Cartman would always say...."but you said you didn't know it was OOS...or did you?" All I can say, it was honest mistake...or was it? (again this is eric cartman talking).
