Weve all done it.

Get to the beach, hook into something. Then realise youve forgotten something you needed back on shore.

So what have you forgotten?

Ill start.

Last year, I went fishing here on the Ottawa river, and I hooked into something that felt powerful. It had guts man. I hauled on that thing for at least 5 minutes before I brought it out of the water.

A Pike!

My first ever pike I had caught. Just a small one. 18" long or so. I elected to release him back into the wild. So I reached into my back pocket and.. Hey.. Where the heck are my pliers?

So I rummage through the tackle box. Where are they.. All this time the pike is getting less amused. I find nothing in the tackle box to pick the hook out of his yap. Which is now snapping. They have plenty of teeth.

I decide Ill have to cut line to get him off. So I reach for my trusty leatherman knife.... which I left on the table. Next to the pliers.

So Here I am trying to cut the line with my teeth, with an angry pike a foot away from my melon. And of course. Its braided line. It takes that much longer to cut!

I eventually knawed through it, and let him go. With one of my favorite lures. Oh well.

Oh so that was your Lure...thx! J/K

Things that I have forgotten, camera, water, food, & most important Lures! I'll try to be more organized this year.

pliers and a pocket knife are always a must. even though i've forgot them many times, i was fortunate enough to be able to get the hooks out with my hands while a friend was holding the fish tightly, but it took a really long time and fingers numb. now i always have a couple of each on the boat, just incase people decide they want to fish on shore rather than on the boat.

A cheap sheath made from an old

cellphone holster with the sewn in-to the shape of that particular pair of pliers is what I use nowadays and the readily availability and safety is a relief from the before frantic hunt for them at the bottom of the tackle box-especially after a big fish is hooked and all panic breaks loose! On the selfsame belt I also add a multitool like the Gerber Multiplier or Leatherman and clipped to my shirt or belt loop is a nailclipper on those retractable clips. After losing precious equipment(not to mention time and fish!) and getting hooked by own lures-never gain.I developed my own system just to save my own hide!Hope this helps!! :D

1) Pliers. 2) Net. I always assume that someone else will have one when I fish the piers... Bad idea.

I cannot say I have ever forgot any fishing gear this is one activity that I enjoy so much that I get ready for few days in advance and make sure everything is there and ready to go.

Check out the video below nevermind forgetting equipment when you have a fishing partner lake the woman in the video LOL:

I suppose you could have tried using a stick and attempt to unhook the lure while also attempting to not harm the fish. But that can be risky and you may do more harm then good but it maybe worth it sometimes.

one time i loaded up my car the night before and in the morning i decided to take my brothers car lol. when i piked up my buddy he asked where my stuff was so luckily we went back and picked up my sutff. lol that would have sucked if i went all the way up north then seen that i had nothing.

the worst thing that i forgot probably would have to be the entire tackle box. LOL
i remember it was opening day for walleye and we were just in a rush to get there first. As we make it to the place we were fishing, we try to set up, but NO, there was NOTHING to set up with . lucky we found a tackle store nearby and bought everything, but local tackle stores seem to be like 2x the price in everything.

Yep the local guys need to make money plus they do not carry the same amount of inventory hence the high prices but thank God for them as sometimes they have exactly what you need.

TRUE ! an hour and a half drive back towards home to get the tackle box would be hell. yea, i would say that local tackle store deserved my money.
