Do you really need glow bait at night?

So, I bought several moonshine glow spoons, a few Cleo's that do not glow along with some J-13's. I also have some flicker shad plugs and other lures. Will the non-glow baits work as well as the glow at night time? I have heard mixed comments about the fishes vision at night and they rely on scent when feeding, but visuals to strike out of aggression, is that true?

Thanks!

Once you have found the fish that is aggressive, regardless of species, non glow works as good as glow lures. Water clarity also plays a factor. Presentation is the key!

I have been fishing using artificial lures for more than 20 years. No scent on any lures. I even out-fish my friend who were using minnows on float or left at the bottom, while fishing on a boat. Scented lures or bait might attract more bait fish such as perch or rock bass or gobies.

at night, fish will use their lateral line to detect motion in the water, or when visibility is low, if there are feeding or aggressive fish in the area, you'll have a fairly good chance whether using a glow spoon or not

Going to pitch in my two cents here and say I think non-glow lures work. I do think the finish plays a bit into it though. In the evening brass and gold (preferably gold) will kick off the most flash in low light conditions.

Fishing in say about 10' below the surface or less in clear water under a bright moon or brightly lit waterfront area... gold will kick off enough flash. Plus, I think the flash from a gold spoon looks more natural and tasty to a salmon trying to fatten up for the big swim.

Not saying glow spoons do not work. There are enough people who swear by them, but honestly, I think glow spoons get the reaction bite than the hunger bite. Suppose a bite is a bite. I just feel I get more hits off gold finishes.

I would agree the fish are homing in on the vibration of the lures. That would make sense why flutter spoons work well at night.

Thanks, going to give it another shot tonight, mixing up different presentations, see how it goes.
