I have a Orvis Safe Passage Sling pack but am finding that it is not always convenient to swing it around open it up grab needed item. So I started clipping certain items to the front but then when you have it swung around the tool ends up around the back. I like the storage it offers but think a lanyard for the must have in reach items might be the answer.

Do you use a lanyard? What do you like/dislike about it?

I see some for 30.00 and some for 70.00 are there any features that set them apart?

Well in use a lanyard for my scissors and pliers I've never seen one for 70$ it probably comes with other stuff.but just go to Walmart or dollarama or something and pick one IP for a buck or two they work just fine. After a trip or two you get used to it being there

here is a $98.00 lanyard

I put everything in my vest. I don't understand this newschool anti-vest era. I think fanny packs/ lannies look as funny as they sound.

I'm with goodentight. I don't even fly fish and I'd say a vest would be the practical solution. Having that much crap just hanging there for your line to possibly get caught on or fall into some fast current and say see ya later. Even just a lanyard that expensive and a single pair of forceps.

you can fit a lot in that sling pack as I have one also--vests are like wearing a sauna suit in the summer--and for the amount of space they occupy they dont hold a lot I an put twice as much in my sling and not sweat allday--mad uses a lanyard he loves them..i don't like stuff around my neck unless its a Spanish woman---from experience I have noticed tht when you spin the sling pack around -it will drag averything around your neck with it--I put stuff on the strap --I have the orvis magnum so its huge

I use a vest and am amazed at how much I can fit in it. Was thinking of trying a pack. As for a lanyard you could just make your own, I think most people use them for tippets/leaders, I used a piece of braided Dacron and 2 snap swivels and hang tippet there on my vest, occasionally it gets hung up so I'm going to modify it. I just squeeze my forceps onto my vest now, use to use a retractable for them now I just put clippers on that.

I love my lanyard I hate vests for most of the time I have 2 small fly boxes thats it for the summer and for steel head I may use a hip pack depends how many fly boxes I bring. I hate the look of vests. As for a sling pack I will probably pick one up next year as Simms has redesigned there's and it's looks amazing
