he didn't have the right of way as the over taking boat... would of surely took a paddle to the forehead or at least through the hull  and I'm not one to go looking for problems... what a douche, my God...

That's a pretty nice lure to lose, how bout a 5/0 treble...
Sounds like this individual was an Ass. I did say individual because I'm not going to classify all rowers in the class.
5/0 hook? maybe a specially sharpened gaff  .

Alfie.

He was in the wrong.... basic rules on the water, I would have wiped him with my rod ! :) You also might want to contact the rowing club there and inform them of this incident.

When I was sailing the one thing at the end of the day that was the final rule on right of way was what we called the Gross Tonnage Rule. When all other rules were put to rest you get out of the way of the bigger boat. But then again we were racing on a 44' foot boat and always won on that rule alone.

Agree with Bow Man I would send a message or call the club.

Couple factors come into play on the water.
One: the person in the front has stand on lead and the person in the back needs to overtake on the right on the stand on lead.
2: and this is where the tonnage rule come into play. The more agile craft needs to get out the way of a bigger less agile craft.
3: and this is where it gets tricky because if you were fishing trolling then you once again have right of way. Boats fishing have right of way and should be avoided.
Problem is that person was just being a jack and you should report him to the rowing club. By all accounts you were in the right.

I've been boating and fishing on the Humber for a few years now. I've seen a lot of rowers from the Argonaut Rowing Club on the river over the years. They're generally not a very friendly bunch. They never say good morning or even nod hello. But I never had a problem until yesterday.

I was paddling my kayak down river toward the lake when this rower shouts "get out of my way" then rams me from behind a few seconds later. He then proceeds to tell me that the collision was my fault and that I am supposed to get out of his way, even though he is approaching from behind and I didn't even see him!

Anyone ever have a problem with a rower?

What an Ignorant prick! I would of went to the argonaut rowing club and if they would of brushed it off I would of called the police!

It's chaos on the lower credit with both the rowing club and canoe club using the river at the same time. I've seen so many blow ups between boaters there its not funny

The rule would be that the overtaking boat shall keep clear.. period.

EDIT:

Also, from personal experience I have gathered that rowers are only one step above drunken power boaters in regards to their etiquette on the water. Likely due to their lack of experience. Sorry if that offends anyone, but IMO.

My brother has rowed on scugog for year's without any mention of altercations ? Maybe it helped that the coach boat was often manned by two cops

Had a similar incident at Toronto island canals.

We weren't even in the dragon boat canals, we were in the channel further east near wards.

A group of them came through, we were towards the end of a dock at a narrow section and some rower was complaining rudely how we didn't make enough room for her and how we should since she can't see us. While that's going on the next boat rams into a girl in a rental kayak and starts harping at her. They were both going the same direction and the girl had no idea she was being rammed

Rude group of snobs for sure. Sounds like a lot of rowers are lime that.

I would be making his next few minutes hell, if he couldn't turn he should've at least tried to get your attention or stopped before hitting you. a Dardevil on 65lb Power Pro right by his ear believe me that gets their attention just a few Jet Skis have had that happen when trying to buzz me while fishing, Definitely contact the club or police.

it's funny how rowing is portrayed as being regal and gentlemanly. you know, oxford vs. cambridge, etc. and most of them are really good about it. but ya i had a bust up with an idiot on the credit last year.

as he paddled away I would of said Get out of my way and gave him the good ol "Cox mill Special" (thats what we call it where I'm from)....a 2oz thungsten to the head or maybe a jerkbait in the arm...
