Good day. I was out over the weekend, partly to try out my new boat and partly to fish. I went to Long Point in Lake Erie as I heard there was Pike there and Pike is open in Lake Erie. We did go all the way out to the Bluff Bar, but had no luck. We marked a lot of fish on the depth finder, but from my guess they were Lake Trout, as that is also what the Marina confirmed. I did not have any of the proper stuff for Lakers and also have never fished for them. Anyone have any suggestions of where to go for the early season fish. I do understand that the water is still cold so the fish aren’t biting much, however it is hard to pass up the nice weather. Anyone have any suggestions on where I should try next? I Live in Guelph and my boat is on a trailer so I am fairly open to locations. Thanks

I am trying to decide if I should make the leep and get down riggers? I mainly fish for Bass and Pike, but woudl like to get into Lake Trout and Salmon. Could also troll for walleye..... The other option would be to do a slow troll with a 3 way Swivel. then I woudl have to decide if I would use them enough to get the electric or if I shoudl just get the manual down riggers. Do any of you have or use downriggers or the 3 way Swivel for trolling for lake trout?

There arent too many lake Erie trollers on this forum, there are some but they are few and far between. Try this site for Erie trolling http://www.longpoint.on.ca/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2 its a fairly simple forum and doesnt have nearly as much traffic as this one but they almost exclusively talk about lake erie trolling for Walleye and bows.
