Hi Folks I am considering moving house in the not to distant future & I was wondering with the mix of people we have here from all over where would you move to in Ontario (East, West or North of Toronto)?

I currently live in Brampton which is getting too big & busy now so I am on the look out for a smaller community within a maximum 2 hours drive from Brampton, reason being I was forced to take early retirement & my wife still needs to work another 10 years or so. She doesn't have to drive in every day & can stay with friends or family on snowy days

I have too much time on my hands and my recent return to fishing has been really enjoyable but I would prefer to be close to some FISHING HOTSPOTS than having to drive all over the place in search of bigger fish ( Steelhead, Browns or Pike etc)

Anyone have any favourite towns etc & why you like them so much.

Thanks in advance for your help....

I live in Kitchener(Waterloo), I love it here. Its very central to alot of good fishing. 45mins to the closest west lake O trib(Salmon,Steele). Minutes to The Grand(Bass,Pike, Walleye, Huge Carp) and also a few others ;). Then if you go north the closest huron trib is like 1.5 hours, however I know closer spots. Plus Lake Erie isn't too far away either, lots of small lakes around with good bass, pike, walleye like Conestoga Lake. Cons include far away from the Kwarthas,Muskokas anything East you have to drive through Toronto or go cross country. It too is becoming a bigger in size and shows no sign of stopping. We also have 2 universitys, and during the school year our populations grows and traffic by the uni's gets busy.

Chris is right the k-w area is a good choice but its growing pretty quickly. Best bet is up north, innisfil is a really nice town right on simcoe and about an hour to a bunch of chrome tribs both lake o and gbay. My old boss lives up there, nice houses and alot cheaper than the city and your right on simcoe!

I really like Orangeville! It's kind of central to a lot of rivers and is big enough to have everything you need but still small enough to have that small town feel.

×2 I use to work in Bradford, not to far from innisfil. They are both pretty nice, Bradford being smaller and about 10mins from newmarket. Bradford is one of those small town that people are discovering and growing fast. I use to do alot of work for Great Gulf a builder in that town.

If wife ends up driving couple of hours each day, believe me you will not have a good time fishing :-D....That aside, Kitchener/Waterloo area is pretty good.It has the highest percentage of fishermen in Ontario, for sure for a reason ....

I love niagara! There is almost too much diversity of fish species, lots of country and of course great fishing(though its pretty much all warmwater).

I live in Grey county, under an hours drive to lots of gbay and Huron tribs. It's not crowded in this area much, lots of amazing ice cold crystal clear streams and rivers. Our winters get kinda crazy up here but places like blue mountain and the Bruce peninsula are beautiful and not far away.

Get out the snowblowers! Sounds like a great place!

KW is way too far from the good steelheading grounds. You should go for a spot on a georgian bay trib if you want to get away from the big cities.

you gotta work though i'm thinking seriously about heading south again ......maybe the viceroy plant in port hopeless? georgian bay area nice if ur retired or on odsp but labour market competitive i think.

Got to take into account that his wife has to drive to work in Brampton. Driving country roads in the winter on a daily basis would suck. I know there are friends and family she can stay at, but theres always that what if.

These are all great suggestions & I knew you all had quite different experiences depending where you came from.

Right now I don't think the wife would consider being close to G Bay as she has heard too many story's from Realtors that they underestimated how much snow they get up there before they moved up there (Everyone loves it summer & fall). Me personally I would love it would bring me closer to places I would like to fish in a regular basis.

Grey Bruce I also like but again it's just too far for her and again the snow would be a limiting factor as most of her business is in the Brampton/Georgetown/Caledon/Orangeville area.

Orangeville I know she would move there as it is still close to Brampton & she likes the town.... we dragged our feet last spring when an Ideal property came up for sale in Amaranth (20 mins outside Orangeville) and when we were ready to do something there were multiple offers on the Property.

Waterloo I hadn't thought of but again the wife has Family in Cambridge again it's a close commute for her to work but I had heard that the Grand was Grand at Fergus.

A couple of her siblings have very recently moved out Fort Erie way & so I had just been looking to see what was available for fishing out that way but she isnt too keen on there.

So I'm sure she would like anywhere between here and Niagara or here and Kitchener Waterloo or here and South of #89 Shelburne

I think if we went East of Toronto that she would hate the commute back across the top of the city in the traffic on the days that she had to come to work in Brampton.

But this has certainly given me food for thought and I am going to watch/look in these areas to see if there is anything that might meet our needs....

I changed my vote to east of toronto.... Lake of the woods. I would choose south if i could though, preferably florida or north carolina. Too much development in niagara and not enough spring fed streams with cold water.
