Edible Fish?

I wouldn't touch farmed salmon with a ten foot poll. They are not natural. Heck even the color of their flesh isn't natural. Being in Alaska I don't even understand how Sam's club even carries farmed salmon. I was there last night and saw that product. Every store here sells wild Alaskan salmon. I fish, so I have never bought salmon. That is the only fish I eat. No need to harvest rainbows/dollies if I have salmon IMO. Wild ocean run salmon is a staple for me and my family. There are no orders here on safe levels of eating fish. You can eat every day all the time. It sucks that that is not the case in Ontario.

How do we identify which are Wild Ocean Salmon ?, Ontario Lake Wild Salmon and Farmed Salmon ?

I know mostly Farmed Salmon are Orange meat once Fillet that sell in the market. Is this correct ?

W.Ocean and W.Ontario L:ake Salmon ? Any different ?

Please POST some Pic and describe how their look are ..

Up here we have hatchery programs that suppliment king returns in certain rivers. Eklutna tail race and Ship creek here both have supplimental hatchery fish returns as well as wild stock. The only way to tell the difference is that the hatchery fish have no adipose fin. A wild stock fish will have the adipose fin. The adipose fins are cut off the fish at the hatchery.

This is how I tell the difference. I don't know if this is done in Ontario though. Perhaps someone else can chime in on this.

I've seen lake o chinnys with clipped adipose fins, but not often. If I recall correctly depending on the year the fish was stocked, different fins are clipped. Correct me if I'm wrong tho :unsure:

The Lake O limits for eating fish are based on man made pollutants, whereas the limits for the Georgian Bay area are based on naturally occurring mercury levels in the water.
